Job Title: Aircraft Structural TechnicianJob Description
This role focuses on performing heavy and line maintenance on Q400 and other regional aircraft from a structural perspective. You will work as a key member of a small team of experienced mechanics, supporting a high-volume maintenance operation on the airport grounds. The position combines hands-on structural repair, sheet metal work, and airframe maintenance in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform heavy maintenance on regional aircraft, with a primary focus on Q400, handling approximately 80 heavy maintenance and 20 line checks.
- Carry out structural inspections, repairs, and modifications on airframes, including sheet metal and heavy structures work, in accordance with regulatory and company standards.
- Conduct line maintenance tasks as required, including troubleshooting structural issues and performing timely repairs to support aircraft turnaround times.
- Collaborate closely with a team of 5–6 mechanics, moving from aircraft to aircraft on the airport grounds to support operational needs.
- Use appropriate hand tools and specialized calibrated tools to complete structural and sheet metal repairs safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Transport Canada and aviation regulatory requirements, including proper documentation and adherence to approved maintenance procedures.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and customer representatives in a customer-facing environment, providing clear updates on work status and aircraft readiness.
- Utilize technology and digital tools to access maintenance documentation, record work performed, and track tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Operate vehicles on airport grounds, as required, to move between aircraft and work locations, following airport safety and security procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Support both day and night shift operations as needed, adapting to changing project requirements and shift rotations.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of heavy maintenance in aircraft structural repairs experience on regional jets such as Q400, Dash Classic, or similar aircraft.
- Endorsement on regional aircraft type
- Flexibility to work various shift patterns, including 5-5-4 rotations, Monday to Friday schedules, and both day and night shifts depending on project needs.
- A&P experience or equivalent aircraft maintenance engineering experience.
- Ability to perform structural and sheet metal repairs using appropriate tools and techniques while following aviation maintenance standards.
- Current Radio License – Aeronautical, as recognized by Transport Canada.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC).
- Valid authorization and ability to drive on airport grounds, or willingness to complete and pass the airport driving test.
- Strong customer-facing skills with the ability to interact professionally with airline and aviation stakeholders.
- Comfort with using technology and digital maintenance systems in daily work.
- Experience working alongside American and Canadian airlines or similar operators.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive maintenance environment.
- Willingness to be local to, or relocate to, the Calgary area.
