Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE

After completing a formal education or training program in aircraft structures maintenance, individuals will assist experienced technicians in routine inspections and basic repairs of aircraft sheet metal structures.  Over time, individuals will progress to perform repair and replacement tasks independently. 

COMPENSATION

Starting Pay:                                                               $18.50 per hour

After successful completion of 6 weeks training:      $19.50 per hour

After 6 months, based on performance:                      $20.50 per hour

After 12 months, based on performance:                   $22.00 per hour

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands:  This role involves extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking.  It requires bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level.  Occasionally crawling, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling weights up to or over 50 pounds unassisted.  Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity and corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Equipment Operated:  Hydraulic press brake, power shear, forming equipment, hand tools, lift equipment, stands, ladders, glass beading equipment, rivet guns, drills.

Work Location:  Aircraft maintenance hangar, Sheetmetal Shop, Flightline.

Protective Equipment Required:  Goggles, safety glasses, face shields, ear protection, aprons, gloves, safety harnesses, breathing equipment.

Potential Hazards:   Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets, working on unprotected heights, or around moving machinery, aircraft fuel tank entry.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions:

  • Research technical data and performs inspection, repair and replacement of aircraft sheet metal structures including main landing gear fittings, aircraft skins and floor beams in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals, FAA regulations and Ascent Aviation policies and procedures, under direct supervision.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products, under direct supervision.
  • Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal parts, equipment, and products utilizing knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining, and layout techniques, under direct supervision.
  • Selects gauge and type of sheet metal, such as stainless steel, or aluminum, or nonmetallic material, such as plastics or fiberglass, according to product specifications, under direct supervision.
  • Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material, using scribers, dividers, squares, and rulers applying knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of product or parts, under direct supervision.
  • Makes appropriate entries in Component Removal Log, completes identification tags, and repairable/parts routing tags upon removing components from aircraft.
  • Makes appropriate entries on routine and non-routine work cards by maintaining detailed records of work performed, inspections conducted, and parts used in compliance with aviation regulations and maintenance standards.

Marginal Job Functions:

  • Maintain proper documentation of training received for training record and signed by Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.
  • Performs maintenance work such as repair and maintenance of company equipment and shop housecleaning, under direct supervision.
  • Ensure that all work performed is done in a safe manner. Directs activities to protect employees from harm and maintain safe working conditions.

SMS REQUIREMENTS

  • Participates in and supports safety initiatives, safe work practices and SMS compliance.
  • Immediately reports hazards, unsafe work practices and accidents/injuries.
  • Adheres to all safety rules, FAA regulations, PPE compliance and equipment operation requirements.
Job Requirements:

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to organize and plan work with attention to detail.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency in English (written and verbal) and the ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Interpreting technical data.
  • Safe operation of vehicles and equipment with or without supervision.

Education/Training: High School diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education or training in aircraft maintenance or equivalent combination of education, training or experience preferred.

Experience: Must be mechanically inclined as demonstrated by ability to pass a basic mechanical test. Training or some experience in aircraft structural repair preferred, but not required.

Certificates/Licenses: A License preferred, but not required. Current valid Arizona driver’s license with clear driving record for past three years.

Other: May be required to work at both Marana, AZ and Tucson, AZ locations based on business needs.
