What you can expect as an Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Technician at West Star:

 

We are looking for people who aspire to become licensed Aircraft Maintenance Technicians — people with strong mechanical aptitude and a self-starter attitude who can adapt to our standards of conduct while working as part of a team in a safety-oriented environment. If the prospect of inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and solving intricate challenges excites you, then this is the position for you.

 

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:

  • Perform general mechanical functions on aircraft and related systems.
  • This shall include, but not be limited to items such as removal and installation of panels and components,
  • repair work and sheet metal repair or installation.
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians and Lead Maintenance Technicians with all maintenance, including preventive maintenance - Inspection, adjustment, cleaning, replacement. 
  • Acquire necessary knowledge and skills through On-the-Job Training (OJT) and self-study to perform repetitive maintenance repairs on aircraft.
  • Document work performed per appropriate manuals including but not limited to Maintenance Manual (MM), Repair Station Manual/Quality Control Manual (RSQCM), General Operating Procedures (GOPs) and Structure Repair Manual (SRM).
  • Comply with all environmental health and safety policies and procedures set forth by WSA. 
  • Assist maintenance technicians with troubleshooting, repairs, and modifications of aircraft systems and/or components. 
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned. 

 

What you’ll need to bring with you:

 

Your Education:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. A valid drivers license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not required

 

Your Experience:

1 + year prior experience in aircraft, vehicle, or ATV/UTV maintenance preferred. Possess general mechanical and electrical troubleshooting/problem solving skills.

 

Your Initiative:

We’re looking for a team player who is self-motivated and able to perform in a fast paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common.

 

Your Responsibility:

Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments. 

Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.

Must perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.

Hold yourself accountable and take responsibility for your training/learning

Physical Requirements:

 Lift at least 70 lbs.

Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.

Routing or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.

Working Conditions:

The majority of work will be accomplished in a hangar environment where there can be extreme temperatures

Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.

Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

 

Equipment Used:

Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.

Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.

Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices.

Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.

 

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges from $27.00 to $39.00. Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, shift, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other forms of compensation include health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid vacation.
