As an Assembly Apprentice at Magellan Aerospace, you will work as part of a highly skilled engineering team, gaining hands-on experience in the assembly, fitting, and maintenance of aerospace components. This apprenticeship provides structured training combining practical workshop experience with academic learning, leading to a recognised mechanical engineering qualification.
Course Breakdown
Year 1
During your first year, you will attend college full-time, supported by regular check-ins from the Magellan team to ensure your progress and development. This is the year where you gain fundamental knowledge, core skills and techniques that act as a base for your future career.
Year 2
In year 2 you will transition to working onsite at Magellan Aerospace, with day release to college. You will work on the shopfloor alongside skilled engineers applying the skills and knowledge learnt in Year 1, working towards completing a recognised Aerospace qualification.
Year 3
In Year 3 you will continue to work onsite with day release to college, where you will work towards completing your qualifications. You will have the opportunity to apply skills you have learnt across years 1 and 2 to work on more detailed projects and systems. You will be encouraged to begin the application process for a permanent skilled position within your preferred discipline.

Essential Responsibilities
- Assist in the assembly and fitting of precision aerospace components to strict engineering standards
- Interpret and work from technical drawings, specifications, and engineering instructions
- Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments
- Follow health, safety, and quality procedures at all times
- Maintain a clean and organised working environment
- Work collaboratively with skilled fitters, engineers, and other apprentices
Training & Development:
- Attend college as part of the apprenticeship programme
- Develop skills in mechanical fitting, and engineering principles
- Gain industry-recognised qualifications (e.g. NVQ, BTEC, or equivalent)
- Receive mentoring and guidance from experienced professionals
Position Requirements
Academic:
- 5 GSCE’s at Grade C or 4 inclusive of Maths, English and Science
Skills:
- Strong interest in aerospace engineering and manufacturing
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Basic understanding of maths and science
- Good communication skills
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills

- Eager to learn and take on new challenges
Career Progression
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you may be considered for a full-time role as a Skilled Fitter.
Once in a full-time role, there may be further opportunities to progress into advanced engineering positions within Magellan Aerospace.
