Job Description:

The Avionics Manager is responsible for supervising and coordinating all avionics shop related activities to ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency are consistently achieved. To ensure customers installs, integrations, or repairs exceed expectations. 

  • Become main point of contact for modifications team for technical questions and concerns. Provide expert level of advice and troubleshooting to technicians, customers and engineering for all aspects of avionics and electrical systems. Perform function test of newly installed avionics equipment as well as existing equipment to evaluate for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Supervise team while working alongside to complete work, evaluate and train. Provide OJT to junior technicians. Mentor and train Avionics Techs of all tenure
  • Manages all aspects of multiple avionics integration and certification projects/programs through the project/program life cycle, including the development of project plans/schedules, budgets, resource utilization and delivery of outcomes.
  • Perform installation and maintenance of aircraft avionics components and electrical systems components, such as, airborne navigation/communication systems, weather radar, autopilot, compass systems, and accessories in accordance with MFG specifications and FAA guidelines (aircraft such as Piper, Cessna, Pilatus, Hawker Beech, Gulfstream, and other general aviation and corporate aircraft). 
  • Test and inspect aircraft communications components, navigation components, weather radar, autopilot, compass systems, and accessories to MFG specifications. Troubleshoot to determine malfunctions on aircraft avionics components and electrical systems components, such as, airborne navigation/communication systems, weather radar, autopilot, compass systems, and accessories
  • Complete all checklists, forms and reports as required in accordance with the company, government, and FAA regulations and guidelines
  • Holds regular cross-functional project/program meetings to review and update customers and internal stakeholders regarding project status, logistics, resources, schedules and objectives. Ensures early risk identification and implementation of mitigation measures or corrective actions.
  • Supports the development of technical proposals and quotes for new avionics integration and certification opportunities. 
  • Provides timely reports to external customers and internal managers to ensure an understanding of project/program status and performance. Prepares interim and completion project/program reports.
  • Function as liaison with the customer and ASM engineering, certification and manufacturing staff utilizing both written and verbal communications. Ensure customer has provided all source and reference technical data, as specified.
  • Provide overall support for bid requests in avionics installations, modifications, and upgrades. Read, review, and dissect requests for proposal (RFP), requests for quotation (RFQ), invitations to bid (ITB) and requests for information (RFI). Manage all proposal documents received and maintain all data, determine if estimate or formal quote is required, and create formal avionics proposals. Utilize company cost building templates to create, modify and provide accurate pricing information including labor estimates, parts, engineering/service fees, and miscellaneous costs
  • Collaborate internally to gather and obtain necessary information, working with different business units such as Sales, Finance, Operations, and Engineering
  • Coordinate calls at the pre-response and the post-award phase with all key stakeholders to ensure proper handoff of documentation and all required information * Maintain quote tracking status and provide revisions as needed to produce customer satisfaction
  • Maintain current pricing database from vendors and internal sales spreadsheets; manage incentive programs to ensure accurate and competitive proposals are generated * Provide Sales Team with supporting documentation required for sales completion
  • Maintain industry knowledge and familiarity with existing and next generation avionics products and systems
  • Works closely with Department Manager and Team Leaders to develop, coordinate, standardize and implement new and existing procedures that promote continuous improvements in efficiency and quality. Work with Director of Maintenance and other Manager-level employees to ensure on time scheduling and timelines are being kept
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or certificate from an accredited two (2) year college, university or technical school in avionics maintenance or electronics required or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in an Lead/Supervisor/Manager role within Aviation
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License. Previous experience in Part 145 operations
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of technical data such as OEM Service Bulletins and STC’s, seek out other approval methods to properly install equipment per the latest FAA requirements
  • Relevant experience in avionics installations 
  • Strong understanding of FAA and EASA regulations and requirements applicable to FAR Part 23 & 25 aircraft.
  • Knowledge of Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, and Garmin Avionics Systems 
  • Ability to prioritize customer and sales team needs, manage multiple proposals in all stages
  • Be self-motivated, independent, and exhibit exceptional relationship management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work with personnel from all levels
  • Authorized to work in the United States

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in aviation maintenance or management related field
  • 3-5 years of previous proposal and technical writing desired, not required
  • Knowledge of complex sales practices and RFP processes
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prefer experience with Lean/Six Sigma, Change Management, and Excellence program designs
  • Experience improving business process and or Rockefeller habits

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledgeable in maintenance and repairs, computer science, engineering, building and business operations
  • Skilled in monitoring, inspecting, troubleshooting, decision-making and communicating
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with multiple departments
  • Ability to adapt quickly to an existing, complex environment
  • Computer skills – MS Office, Corridor

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Standing/walking for short distances: up to two hours on hard surfaces.
  • Sitting: up to six hours.
  • Lifting/Carrying: occasionally, up to 20 pounds for up to 200 feet; rarely, up to 50 pounds for up to 20 feet.
