Position Purpose

This position performs welding tasks to aircraft, aircraft parts and components in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Erickson requirements. This position complies with all company policies and Standard Operating Procedures in a team environment. One must be willing and able to work long hours and travel as required to meet company requirements. Provide support to internal and external customers to meet customer requirements.

Job Leveling

These positions require different levels of experience, job knowledge and skills. The characteristics for each level are:


13 Aviation Welder I (Level 1) is distinguished from the Job Aviation Welder II (Level 2) by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned within the series. Employees at this level may have limited experience and receive regular instruction or assistance in performing their assigned duties. Zero to two years’ experience is desirable and the ability to begin training and certification to current welding standards is expected. Advancement to the II level is based on demonstrated proficiency in all duties and responsibilities.


677 Aviation Welder II (Level 2) is distinguished from the Aviation Welder I (Level 1) by being more proficient in routine tasks and duties assigned within the series. Two to five years’ experience is desirable and the ability to be certified to current welding standards is expected. One in this position must have the ability/availability to travel domestically and internationally to perform on-aircraft work in remote locations. Advancement to the III level is based on demonstrated proficiency in all duties and responsibilities.


710 Aviation Welder III (Level 3) is distinguished from the Aviation Welder II (Level 2) by the performance of the full range of duties and responsibilities. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties including assuming project management responsibilities when assigned. Additionally, they mentor others and foster technical growth. Researches, creates, and trains new processes and procedures. The employee at this level must be fully certified in all material types, techniques and disciplines and be willing to travel domestically and internationally to perform on-aircraft work in remote locations. Five or more years of experience is required. This position may also perform additional duties in other processes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs cleaning, prep, masking, brazing, stress relief and welding to aircraft parts and raw materials. Documenting work per company, customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs welds to new and/or used parts using the GMAW, GTAW, oxy acetylene and other processes depending on certifications and qualifications, following written processes and instructions.
  • May perform various tasks such as fabricating and assembling of manufactured parts for welding and fabricates tooling and fixtures.
  • Reads and complies with Repair Station Quality Manual, Production Certificate Quality Manual, Standard Operation Procedures, Federal Aviation Regulations, Technical Manuals, Drawings, and Specifications.
  • Achieves and maintains task qualifications for all work performed.
  • Travels as required to meet company and customer requirements.
  • Performs administrative duties including time entry; training classes; creating, revising and using department documents as required by the Company and department requirements.
  • Orders welding supplies and welding parts in accordance with company policies
  • Performs Lean, Standard Work and Continuous Process Improvements.
  • Mentors, trains and coaches new employees when qualified as a mentor or trainer.
  • Maintains an organized work area and demonstrates good housekeeping.
  • Works with hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals and products to perform required tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Level 1: 0-2 years - fabricating, welding, or equivalent schooling/experience
  • Level 2: 2-4 years - fabricating, welding, or equivalent schooling/experience
  • Level 3: 5 plus years - fabricating, welding, or equivalent schooling/experience. AWS Certification is preferred.
  • Ability to certify to current welding standards in multiple material types.
  • Experience in welding of turbine engine and various aircraft parts in a repair or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Two-year vocational welding degree preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Must be able to communicate written and verbally in an accurately and professional way.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as directed and drive company vehicles or rental vehicles as directed.
