ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, calibrating modifying and/or rebuilding a wide variety of CNC machine tools and associated equipment.  Must provide accurate documentation of work efforts in both electronic and paper media.

  • Must be able to maintain, repair, adjust and modify complex process equipment and instrumentation. Required to operate or work with qualified operators or support teams  to validate corrective actions and demonstrate satisfactory operating condition.

  • Must be able to read, interpret and follow intricate and complex blueprints, schematics and instruction manuals as they apply to the hydraulic, pneumatic and electro-mechanical apparatus of the CNC machine tools and manufacturing process equipment. 

  • Responsible for performing preventive maintenance on all CNC and conventional machines, process equipment and incorporate modifications and revisions when required.  Required to update documentation as required. 

  • Performs duties and tasks conforming to all safety regulations and procedures, such as LOTO, confined space, Fall Protection/Arrest, hot work permits, and NFPA 70e.  Keep facilities, materials and work areas clean and orderly, exercise good housekeeping practices. 

  • Must be able to utilize complex electronic, hydraulic and mechanical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, recorders, VOMs, vernier calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, ball bars, laser alignment tools, electronic levels and other test equipment as required.

  • Must actively participate in a team based environment which includes, but not limited to the following:  active participation in daily team meetings and activities, cooperates and relates well with others, practices direct professional communication with team members, and is open to new ideas from team members and considers opinions different from their own.

  • In the team environment, a maintenance team coordinator role needs to be designated in routine and emergency situations and may be required as needed on each shift.   Collaboration between the maintenance coordinator role and the team is required to ensure group viability, shift accountability, and to provide effective customer support.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  Shop Math, including Algebra, Geometry, Decimals and Fractions.  Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanics and the mechanical fit of components, assemblies and sub-assemblies as applied to the precision tolerances required for maintaining and/or restoring the CNC machines to O.E.M. specifications.  

  • Must have experience in at least one of the following:

  • Installation and precision alignment of machine tool mechanism

  • Ability to perform mechanical scraping of machine tool ways, bearing, and mating surfaces to support rebuild, repair, and maintenance of production equipment.

  • Ball screw replacement

  • Gearbox rebuild

  • Linear guide replacement

  • Spindle rebuild/replacement

  • Two years’ experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment.

  • Minimum Two years of practical experience troubleshooting the repair of CNC machines, or equivalent. 

  • Experience reading and interpreting complex mechanical drawings, schematics, instruction manuals, diagrams and N/C and PLC (ladder) programs.

  • Working knowledge of typical testing equipment devices such as oscilloscopes, meggar, multimeter, ball bar, or laser alignment.

  • Experience performing duties and tasks conforming to all safety regulations and procedures, such as LOTO, confined space, hot work permits, and NFPA 70e. 

  • Considerable physical effort will be applied in machine and equipment repair.  Intermittent lifting of up to 50 pounds and manipulating bulky subassemblies and parts/ tooling.  Exposure to awkward positions (bending, stooping, climbing) during maintenance tasks. 

  • Must be able to climb and work at elevated levels. 

  • Must have good manual dexterity, and ability to use various hand tools and gages. 

  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills.

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

  • Associates degree in technical field or trade school certificate desired. 

  • MS Office knowledge. 

  • Experience coordinating the efforts of other resources to facilitate task or project closure.

  • Experience participating in a high performance team based environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Continuous analytical ability required to troubleshoot complex electro/mechanical equipment, interpret and effectively utilize complex prints, schematics and instructions for equipment maintenance.

  • The work will be diversified and complex.  Work demands a high degree of attention to detail, concentration, and judgment.

  • Considerable physical effort will be applied in machine and equipment repair.  Intermittent lifting of up to 50 pounds and manipulating bulky subassemblies and parts/ tooling.  Exposure to awkward positions (bending, stooping, climbing) during maintenance tasks. 

  • Utilize good manual dexterity, and ability to use various hand tools and gages.

  • Work with ladders, pits, platforms, and scaffolds.  Must be able to climb and work at elevated levels.

  • Exposure to chemicals while using proper PPE and following safety procedures.

  • May work with voltages, up to 480 volts while using proper PPE and following safety procedure.

  • Required to work shift work in accordance with business needs.

  • Will be expected to respond to scheduled overtime, hold over or emergency call-in as required.

  • Will be required to carry a company issued cell phone or radio while working on site.

  •  May be required to work in inclement conditions.
