Job Summary:
The Aircraft Structures / Composite Bond Technician is responsible for the lay-up, bonding, assembly, and repair of metal, composite, and laminate aircraft components. Primary focus is MRO repair of 737 and DC-10 thrust reversers and inlet cowlings. Work is performed per engineering specifications, repair manuals, and FAA Part 145 requirements to return components to serviceable condition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lay out, assemble, pre-fit, and bond a variety of metal, composite, or laminate fabrications, assemblies, parts, skins, or equipment.
  • Perform MRO repair of 737 and DC-10 thrust reversers and inlet cowlings, including damage assessment and rework.
  • Follow engineering and manufacturing specifications and work orders to determine parts to be bonded and the temperature and pressure required. Cut parts or materials to size.
  • Operate autoclave, hydraulic presses, and ovens to complete the bonding cycle per process specifications.
  • Sand, deburr, and smooth repaired areas to meet aerodynamic and structural requirements.
  • Apply sealing resins to cut or exposed edges to prevent delamination and moisture ingress.
  • Adjust process methods and sequences based on compounds, contours, and lay-up transitions.
  • Perform complicated rework or repair on composite and metal-bonded assemblies.
  • Obtain required information from prints, charts, sketches, work orders, documents, verbal, and electronic information.
  • Use shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments to complete work assignments. Verify work performed is per work instruction and meets process and/or engineering specification.
  • Ensure equipment and tool certification occurs per procedure.
  • Use and control solvents and cleaning solutions in the preparation of details, tools, and assemblies for bonding and paint per established procedures.
  • Perform routine minor machine maintenance as part of daily work duties.
  • Complete all required documentation including work orders, router steps, and FAA repair station forms.
  • Maintain compliance with FAR Part 145, company quality standards, and safety procedures.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years experience in aircraft composite bond, sheet metal, or structural repair. MRO environment preferred.
  • Experience repairing thrust reversers and/or inlet cowlings on 737, DC-10, or similar transport category aircraft strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, SRM, CMM, and work instructions.
  • Knowledge of composite materials, adhesives, lay-up processes, and autoclave operations.
  • Proficient with precision measuring instruments and shop math.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to pass respirator fit test and work with chemicals and solvents.
  • Basic computer skills for work order and documentation sign-off.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in FAA Part 145 Repair Station.
  • Familiarity with Boeing and Douglas repair data.
  • Hot bond and vacuum bag repair experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Hangar and shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and chemicals per OSHA standards.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, gloves, and safety glasses required.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs with/without reasonable accommodation.
  • May require work at heights and in confined spaces.

  • Safety & Compliance: Strict adherence to process specs, FAA regulations, and safety procedures.
