Description:IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, Vandenburg Air Force Base or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position.

This occupation requires the layout, parts fabrication, assembly, installation, mating and mechanical checkout of structures, structural components and systems for the purpose of proving research design on new developmental and/or mock-up assemblies. Includes experimental building or modification of prototype test structures from loft and preliminary design information.

Must be able to and normally does perform the following duties:
Develop experimentally, or from research design information, the bench and structural layout work, parts fabrication from raw stock, assembly, installation and mating operations for incorporation of major revisions to, or for, new structures to develop the physical design to meet required specifications.

Work from such general data as provided by preliminary design drawings, loft lines, sketches and/or oral research information.

Work closely with authorized liaison personnel, and suggest, verbally or by sketches, design changes for research approval when part or assembly cannot be made or installed as designed, or does not seem to meet functional demands, or where such changes will simplify fabrication, assembly and installation of laboratory structural components.

Improvise tools, or work without tooling in fabricating, assembling, installing and mating parts and assemblies as necessary. Improvise laboratory aids, handling and test equipment in the performance of the aforementioned duties.

Determine or lay out coordination points required for building of tooling or parts to insure subsequent mating of fabricated or installed parts and assemblies and/or to determine location of, or prevent, interference with other systems, structures or installations. Perform all necessary
operations to prove completion and coordination of structure or mechanical components.

Work with, or without, tooling in performing fabrication, repair, modification, assembly, installation, mating, functional test and checkout operations of structures, structural parts and assemblies, and mechanical systems.

Make complete set-up and operate machine shop equipment as required, making improvised setups with angle plates, blocks, vises, chucks and clamps. Check completed work with machinists gauges to insure that physical dimensions, angles, tapers, surfaces, etc., meet specifications.

In addition to the above duties, perform the following representative duties:
Instruct others, as required, in the initial fabrication, assembly or installation of the developed
structures, parts and assemblies.

Assist with static or kinetic testing of structural parts, assemblies and mechanical items as required.

Sign off structural and mechanical items as complete and in accordance with research specifications.

May work with, or assist, mechanics in other fields of specialization when so assigned.

Clean, strip and mask structures and components in preparation for paint. Number, stencil and
apply paint and decals in accordance with specifications.

TYPICAL MATERIALS, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Materials worked on: Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys; non-metallic materials.

Materials worked with: Structural materials, mechanical parts and assembling paints, compounds, etc.

Tools used: Bench and mechanics hand tools, machine tools, special fabricating, metal fitting and assembly tools, hand and power sheet metal fabrication equipment; precision measuring devices, etc.

Equipment used: Bench and basic shop machines and equipment, compressors, hoists, dollies and other handling equipment.
Basic Qualifications:
• Apply a complete knowledge of methods and requirements for fabricating and assembling
structures and assemblies.
• Set-up and operate various types of metal forming, bending, blanking, and cutting machines and equipment.
• Possess a good working knowledge of the physical and working characteristics of structural materials.
• Read and interpret all types of engineering
drawings and shop sketches.
• Work from incomplete design information and fill in detail from practical experience, typical construction and accepted practices.
• Work to tolerances as required for the type of work described herein.
• Read, interpret and project loft or other data in obtaining required reference and coordination points.
• Make sketches and diagrams to express design and design change ideas.
• Use shop mathematics, including trigonometry.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret /SCI clearance.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: Standard Monday to Friday 40 hour work week

The base range for this position in California is $28.82 - $54.15.
