Director of Maintenance - Part 135
Job Description:

The Director of Maintenance (DOM) is a key leadership position within Jet 1’s Part 135 operation, responsible for ensuring our aircraft are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and readiness. Working in close partnership with operational leadership, the DOM aligns maintenance planning with Jet 1’s business priorities and service commitments—supporting consistent, on-time performance across the fleet.

This role leads the Part 135 maintenance team and maintains full accountability for compliance with FAA regulations, Jet 1’s General Operations Manual (GOM), General Maintenance Manual (GMM), and all applicable internal policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate Part 135 maintenance personnel to maximize productivity, optimize staffing, and reduce aircraft downtime.
  • Maintain and continuously improve Jet 1’s GOM and GMM within the DOM’s areas of responsibility, ensuring documentation remains accurate, current, and audit-ready.
  • Build and manage maintenance plans based on operational demand and fleet priorities; proactively address shifting schedules, parts availability, and resource constraints to keep work moving efficiently.
  • Develop and manage maintenance budgets, including forecasting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance requirements across the assigned fleet.
  • Oversee fleet-wide maintenance scheduling and long-range planning to support operational continuity and minimize disruption.
  • Review and approve maintenance invoices; obtain and evaluate quotes for upcoming maintenance events and major inspections.
  • Lead with a collaborative, performance-driven management style—coaching the team, setting expectations, and reinforcing accountability and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA, OSHA, and applicable EHS requirements, including accurate documentation and timely submission of all required records and reports.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for aircraft owners and their representatives, communicating maintenance timelines, scope, and approvals as needed.
  • Travel occasionally to support aircraft events, inspections, vendor coordination, or operational requirements.
Job Requirements:

Work Environment & Core Competencies:

This position supports aircraft operations in a safety-critical setting and requires strong technical leadership and compliance focus, including:

  • Working knowledge of OSHA guidelines and internal safety policies, with consistent adherence to both.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply safe work practices and follow established procedures at all times.
  • Capability to coordinate maintenance activities—building schedules, prioritizing work, and ensuring technicians have the training, tooling, parts, and support needed to execute efficiently.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with excellent organization and time management.
  • Experience leading teams, providing direction, and maintaining accountability for results.
  • Solid understanding of flight-line operations, aircraft/vehicle traffic patterns, and the risks associated with ramp environments.
  • Advanced familiarity with aircraft systems, tooling, and technical documentation (e.g., powerplant, landing gear, flight controls).
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.

Experience & Qualifications:

The strongest candidates will bring many of the following:

  • Current A&P license (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management (or related discipline) or 7–10 years of aircraft maintenance and inspection experience with a Part 135 operator.
  • Deep knowledge of FAA maintenance regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strong capability in aircraft parts, inventory, and supply coordination.
  • Working proficiency with Microsoft Office and common productivity tools.
  • Background supporting growth and ongoing maintenance of fleets 50+ aircraft (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with maintenance and scheduling platforms such as FL3XX, CAMP, and TRAXXALL to improve tracking, forecasting, and fleet readiness.
