Job Description:
  • Removal and reinstallation of structural brackets, supports, vents, tubes, and component assemblies in aircraft fuel tanks.
  • Performs dry capacity checks
  • FOD-free inspections prior to tank closure, fuel tank leak repairs/leak checks, and drain/air purge fuel tanks.
  • Required to perform fuel system maintenance & pressurization checks as required.
  • Required to perform Resistance Measurement and Seal installations to support fuel systems
  • Performs fuel tank maintenance safety tasks including clearing the aircraft when applying electrical power, using grounding safety devices, performing lock-out/tag-out, and performing Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) tests.
  • Defuels and refuels aircraft as required.
  • Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as; blueprints or manufacturers’ manuals.
  • Read and follow the client and provided technical data, blueprints, engineering drawings, standard operating procedures, and manufacturing specifications in the maintenance processes.
  • Provides troubleshooting knowledge, inspection, repair, modification, replacement of aircraft fuel components and systems, and follow-on operational checks.
  • The mechanic will be required to access aircraft data via computer systems and initiate online parts and discrepancy requests.
  • Perform efforts associated with flight control installation, removal, and rigging.
  • Landing gear ops check, door rigging, and servicing of aircraft
Job Requirements:
  • The candidate must be able to ascend and descend vertical work ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift loads of approximately 35 pounds.
  • Exposure to noise, working on elevated platforms
  • Use personal protective gear for the face, eyes, ears, hands, and arms as required.
  • Pass visual acuity and color perception tests
  • Experience understanding and interpreting detailed written and verbal work instructions and processes
  • Handle, use, and dispose of hazardous material
  • Obtain & maintain training certifications as required to support assignment responsibilities
  • Occasional (1 to 3 hrs) finger manipulation
  • On occasion, a 2-person lift may be necessary for weights greater than 50 lbs
  • Frequent reaching overhead (3 to 6 hrs)
  • Frequent walking on flat surfaces
  • Frequent standing on flat or uneven surfaces
  • Frequent balancing on a ladder, steps, or uneven surfaces
  • Occasional climbing on 3-12 ft ladders or stands
  • Rotation of head/neck, sitting, crawling, squatting, bending/stooping, lying down, and operating foot controls for an extended period of time
  • Occasional contact with metals
  • Frequent exposure to noise
  • Able to work various shifts and/or an alternate baseline schedule that may frequently change to support mission requirements and may include weekends and holidays. Mission requirements and/or workload may require both scheduled and unscheduled overtime

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 2+ years of experience working as a fuel tank aircraft mechanic
  • 2+ years’ experience reading schematics, technical data, and work instructions
  • Ability to work rotating shifts

Education/Experience:

Typically acquired through basic education (e.g. High School diploma/GED) and typically 4 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. vocational school/Associate+2 years' related work, Bachelor, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with Depot Level/General maintenance procedures.
  • Experience reading and following the client and providing technical data, blueprints, engineering drawings, standard operating procedures, and manufacturing specifications in the maintenance processes.
  • Familiar with performing lock-out/tag-out, and performing Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) tests.
