The Head of Assembly is responsible for the end-to-end management of Assembly in the Wrexham Facility. The core responsibility of the Assembly lead is to assume full P&L responsibility for the structure’s facility, and work with the Division Manager for Wrexham and Finance Business Partner, to support development and oversee the implementation of a strategic business plan, aligned with the overall corporate strategy for Magellan.

The Head of Assembly will apply strong leadership, focusing heavily on improving delivery to the customer, working with the finance, quality and engineering team to improve processes and output. They will have budget management skills to ensure that we remain on track and that our profit- making parts are delivered on time in full, while supporting the Division Manager.

The right candidate will model good behaviours, setting core priorities against the multi year action plan, acting as a leader, coach and manager for the employees within the facility. The incumbent should assess existing workflows, identify opportunities for improvement, and help formalize and implement scalable processes and procedures across assembly.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Support, refine and oversee the implementation of a long- and short-term strategic business and cultural change plan, aligned to corporate strategy/objectives, working with your peers to ensure that they understand and are aligned to the same plan and understand their required supports and inputs for the growth of the plant.
  • Strategically align with customers, understanding their needs and drivers, to develop plans which include commitments to delivery, performance measures, and price. Proactively participate and work with the Division Manager to ensure that delivery remains on track, while supporting long term improvements in the facility and its performance.
  • Maintain compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, REACH, COSHH, and customer-specific requirements. Own and manage departmental budgets covering labour, consumables, maintenance, and capex. Ensure that “big basics” are in place throughout Assembly as a facility.
  • With support from finance, set measurable financial goals (short & long term) that drive profitable business growth. Work closely with finance to ensure that you oversee and are supported on delivering against all financial metrics, including cash and asset management, reporting, corporate & regulatory policies. Support the Division Manager with the development of comprehensive annual business plan for Assembly (including budgets, forecasts, and operational targets).
  • Ensure that Assembly facility and function is “fit to win”, utilising the Magellan corporation to ensure that the MOS is fully integrated and that best practice is implemented into Assembly supporting the CI Team with implementing improvements.
  • Utilize agreed performance metrics that are developed to measure ongoing strategic success and identify areas for improvement or consideration, to ensure that the right metrics are considered when understanding the delivery and growth of the business.
  • Work with the local supporting functions to drive improvements in process, procedures and demonstration of good leadership and behaviours within the Assembly facility.
  • Ensure all internal business systems are operating optimally to direct, monitor and measure company resources.
  • Be a “key contributor “in the Wrexham SLT, helping set the standard on the facility journey to best in class.
  • Establish and maintain a regular internal and management review process, working closely with the site HRBP, to nurture, develop and grow talent within the Assembly facility.
  • Support a developing culture of operational excellence, creative thought, and continuous improvement throughout the facility. Be a champion for change and a people focused culture.

Position Requirements

Academic:

  • ILM L5
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • ILM or equivalent leadership experience

Professional Accreditations:

  • ILM
  • PRINCE2
  • AGILE SIX Sigma Green belt or above desirable

Experience:

  • P&L understanding with precision/custom engineering manufacturing. Operations experience using lean manufacturing tools
  • Aerospace industry experience.
  • Experience leading a team to successful OTIF delivery.
  • Experience building and supporting a strong union relationship.
  • Experience working in an Assembly environment and a leadership role is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting cultural change and working closely with the HR function and leaders to build a one team culture.
  • Experience with introducing and implementing core basics as well as experience of what world class manufacturing facilities should look like and deliver.
  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end supply chain, knowledge of SAP essential.
