Job Summary
The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic is an hourly professional responsible for maintaining both production machinery and the physical infrastructure of the manufacturing facility. This skilled trades role performs mechanical and basic electrical work to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and facility systems in a high-volume manufacturing environment. The position supports safe, reliable, and efficient operations by executing preventive and corrective maintenance, responding to breakdowns, partnering with production to minimize downtime and quality issues, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability and extend asset life.

Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns to diagnose and correct mechanical and basic electrical issues on production lines and support equipment.
- Use root-cause techniques to identify underlying issues and recommend permanent corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineering and production to test and validate repairs.
- Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance on production equipment, including setup, adjustment, troubleshooting, and repair of extrusion machinery, pumps, motors, and auxiliaries.
- Diagnose root causes of equipment failures using appropriate tools, test instruments, and documentation (drawings, schematics, manuals).
- Repair or replace defective components such as bearings, gears, belts, chains, cylinders, valves, electrical devices, and wiring.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Execute preventive maintenance (PM) tasks in accordance with established schedules and procedures.
- Inspect equipment for wear, damage, and proper function; identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Document findings and update maintenance records to support reliability and continuous improvement.
Facility & Building Systems
- Perform maintenance work on building infrastructure such as doors, docks, roofing patches, floors, safety railings, and other structural elements as assigned.
- Assist with maintenance of facility systems such as compressed air, water lines, exhaust systems, and basic HVAC components under direction of senior personnel.
- Support 5S and housekeeping standards in maintenance areas, mechanical rooms, and shop spaces.
Safety & Compliance
- Work safely at all times by following company safety policies, procedures, and required PPE; adhere to LOTO, machine guarding, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain safety devices and guards in good working order, report and correct unsafe conditions.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures including LOTO, confined space rules (if applicable), machine guarding, and safe work permits when required.
- Use appropriate PPE and tools for each task, ensuring that work areas are left in safe condition.
- Assist with safety inspections of equipment and facilities and contribute to corrective action plans.
Documentation & Parts
- Accurately complete work orders, PM checklists, and equipment history records in the maintenance system (e.g., CMMS).
- Assist in identifying, specifying, and requesting replacement parts and materials, support inventory control of critical spares.
- Maintain and update technical documentation as needed (e.g., drawings, manuals).
- Utilize the CMMS to open, update, and close work orders, record labor, parts, and failure codes accurately.
- Help maintain accurate records of equipment condition, repairs, and PM completion.
- Assist in identifying critical spare parts and maintaining proper stock levels through timely communication with supervision or storeroom personnel.
- Collaboration, Training & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with production operators and supervisors to prioritize work, coordinate machine access, and minimize impact to operations.
- Participate in problem-solving, Kaizen, and continuous improvement activities aimed at improving equipment reliability and reducing downtime.
- Share knowledge and provide informal guidance to less-experienced maintenance personnel when required.
- Work closely with production operators to understand equipment issues and coordinate access for maintenance work.
- Participate in cross-functional teams and improvement projects focused on safety, quality, and productivity.
- Provide informal coaching to newer maintenance team members on safe work practices and troubleshooting techniques.
- Partner with production operators, supervisors, and engineers to plan and coordinate maintenance work with minimal impact on operations.
- Communicate clearly about job status, expected completion times, and any special instructions or risks.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and participate in cross-functional teams focused on safety, quality, and productivity.

- High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of safe work practices, including LOTO and machine guarding; familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and relevant codes.
- Demonstrated experience with mechanical systems (gears, bearings, conveyors, pneumatics, hydraulics) and basic industrial electrical systems (motors, sensors, switches, control circuits).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
- Basic industrial electrical skills, including working with motors, sensors, relays, and low-voltage control circuits; ability to use a multimeter and follow electrical schematics.
- Must provide a personal set of basic hand tools and be proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and basic test equipment (e.g., multimeters).
- Ability to use or learn computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document work and look up information.
- Ability to work weekends, overtime, and on-call as business needs require.
- Must meet the physical requirements of the role, including standing for extended periods; lifting 45 pounds; bending, climbing, reaching, kneeling, and squatting; and working from elevated locations such as ladders and platforms. Must be comfortable working at heights and in a manufacturing environment with noise, heat, and moving machinery.
