Job Description SummaryThe Lead Engineer is responsible for the Structural Design of complex component hardware (heat exchanger/ducts) for Advanced Combat Engine New Product Introduction Program. As a component design owner, the engineer will contribute to the design and development of Heat Exchanger/Duct hardware that meets integrated requirements of the engine and airframe and carried the design through preliminary and detailed design. Additionally, the component design owner will deliver both casting and finished part drawings while integrating with our Supply Chain to ensure a robust and producible part through the Model Based Enterprise. The role will involve working closely with the cross functional team including thermal design, materials, stress and life, manufacturing, systems, and product definition to ensure the part delivers differentiated customer outcomes.

The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance. The Lead Engineer is also expected to participate in planning activities and technical reviews.

An engineer at this level is an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent, with opportunity to provide informal guidance to new team members.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in design engineering
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in design of Structural Components
  • Familiarity with FEM Analysis, design for producibility, GD&T and drawing release
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Established project management skills
  • Existing US Government security clearance
  • Prior engineering experience in aircraft engine design.
