Job Objective

The Lead Sheet Metal Technician will ensure that all structural repairs, modifications, and installations comply with company standards and FAA regulations. They will also supervise Sheet Metal Technicians in fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal products and equipment for aircraft.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure that all structural repairs, modifications, and installations comply with company standards and FAA regulations
    Consult blueprints and Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) kits to determine project requirements, including scope, assembly sequences, and required methods and materials
    Set up and perform assigned work such as:
    o   Countersinking and/or dimpling of holes
    o   Install solid rivets
    o   Install blind rivets and fasteners
    o   Debur holes and cut lines
    o   Drill various metals
    o   Bend and form a radius on fabricated sheet metal parts
    o   Rivet and sheet metal component removal
    Install required STC kits
    Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA)

  • Ability to plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair both internal and external aircraft structures and surfaces for aircraft modification in accordance with technical manuals, engineering drawings, and FAA regulations
  • Ability to perform close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal and installation to critical support structures and fracture critical areas
  • Ability and understanding of locating blind holes necessary for installation of new structural items to existing structure
  • Ability to perform efforts associated with sealing, painting, shimming, and preserving structure in accordance with standard repair processes
  • Demonstrative capability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specification, and retrofit requirements to perform
  • Experienced in the use of tooling assemblies and fixtures for medication and repair of structural parts
  • Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications
  • Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as rivets guns, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, reading a scale, and sheet metal brake and sheers
  • Ability to complete sheet metal projects with accuracy and precision
  • Possess work ethics of honesty, integrity, and commitment to maintaining safe and compliant aircraft
  • Strong initiative

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have at least 5 years of sheet metal experience
  • Prefer a valid FAA A&P certificate or in the process of completing certificate requirements or previous military experience
  • Experience in a Part 145 Repair Station preferred

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged standing as well as walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, kneeling
  • Frequent use of hands and wrists
  • Climbing heights on various equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Work Environment

  • Indoor/Outdoor shop with potential extreme hot and cold temperatures
  • *Must provide and utilize personal tools required to complete essential functions
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals is possible
  • Moderate to loud noise level
  • Heavy machinery used

Work Status, Schedule, Travel

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Monday-Thursday 7:00 am-4:30 pm, Friday 7:00 am-12:00 pm
  • Overtime necessary depending on workload 
  • No travel required
