We are seeking a highly skilled Machine Shop Inspector to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting precision-machined components to ensure they meet engineering specifications and quality standards. Proficiency in CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) operation, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and Model-Based Definition (MBD) inspection practices is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform in-process and final inspections of machined parts using both manual and automated tools.
- Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications using GD&T and MBD principles.
- Program and operate CMM equipment (e.g., Romer Arm) to measure critical part features based on 2D drawings and 3D CAD models.
- Execute Model-Based Definition inspections, using CAD-integrated data to assess features directly from 3D models without reliance on traditional 2D prints.
- Document inspection results accurately, using appropriate forms, inspection reports, or digital quality systems.
- Identify non-conforming parts, initiate NCRs (non-conformance reports), and work with production to resolve issues.
- Calibrate, maintain, and use inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and surface plates.
- Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and quality personnel to support root cause analysis and process improvements.
- Maintain a clean and organized inspection area and adhere to all safety and quality protocols.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical diploma or certificate in machining or quality preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a machining or manufacturing quality environment.
- Proficient in GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Demonstrated experience with CMM operation and programming.
- Familiar with Model-Based Definition inspection techniques and working with 3D CAD-based tolerancing and PMI (Product Manufacturing Information).
- Comfortable working with digital inspection software, 3D viewers, and model interrogation tools.
- Knowledge of AS9100 quality systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
The qualifications below are preferred:
