Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 1,500 people in the UK. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK defence customers including many training services. As the company grows we have a need to expand our current Training Capability in the Vertical Lift domain. This is an exciting time to join a growing team of training experts.

This role is for a Maintenance Instructor (Avionic) based at the Apache Academy, Wattisham Flying Station.  Reporting to the Training Delivery Manager, the role will require the individual to become an essential member of a team of eight maintenance training instructors.  The team deliver Apache maintenance training to the MoD customer across a wide spectrum of engineering ability: from aircraft and avionic technician, through to engineering manager.

You will be working in a highly regulated and safety conscious environment and as such everything you do will be to the highest standard and always in compliance with company procedures and applicable regulations.

Job Role:

The Maintenance Instructor (Avionic) is required to deliver theory and practical maintenance training in accordance with the Apache LTTSS contract.  In addition, they are to carry out maintenance when required on the Maintenance Training Equipment (MTE).

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver theory and practical training for their nominated primary and secondary subjects.
  • Lead and assist with the delivery of practical training.
  • Be capable of covering a minimum of two practical tasks of the opposite trade group.
  • Carry out the duties of course co-ordinator.
  • Assist BDUK Training Development Team in the review of contracted courseware.
  • Have a working knowledge of the ISO9001 standards relevant to their work environments.
  • Carry out corrective maintenance as required on the MTE.
  • Demonstrate the Boeing Values and deliver our priorities.
  • Support internal and external audits as required.
  • To participate in Continuous Improvement projects and lead activities when required

In order to achieve the contracted level of service to the customer this position requires flexibility of approach within your areas of responsibility, to ensure all necessary tasks are completed.  On occasions this may require a variation to normal working routine, which could include evening, or weekend working or working from another BDUK site.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Significant experience as an avionic technician working on vertical lift platforms, ideally with extensive experience on Apache.
  • Minimum Level 3 Education & Training qualification.
  • Experience of instruction/teaching, ideally on military aircraft.
  • Ability and willingness to cross-train to the opposite trade discipline in order to teach aircraft subjects and support practical training ordinarily delivered by the other trade.
  • The ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas, cultures and functions.
  • IT proficient specifically Microsoft Office applications.
  • Skill and ability to: collect, organise and analyse data; summarise findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.

Other appropriate background, experience and qualifications may be deemed acceptable
