Job Description:

The Maintenance Welder shall provide welding and metal fabrication services in support of the repair and replacement of: the main complex docks (e.g., railings, bumpers, and ramps), voice/data cable systems (e.g., cable tray brackets and towers), distribution systems (e.g., pipe hangers and brackets), equipment (e.g., mounts, support brackets, sheet metal ducts), maintenance equipment (e.g., brackets, chassis or body repairs), range systems (e.g., brackets on antennas and launchers), rocket ground support equipment (e.g., brackets on antennas, stool, mast, erectors, and loaders.


Responsibilities

  • Support welding and metal fabrication and machine services in support of the Sandia National Labs Kauai Test Facility. 
  • Requires frequent work requirements beyond a typical Maintenance Welder to support mission operations working with and supporting other trades. 
  • Fabricate or repair items including brazing, gas and arc welding processes, thermal cutting, and grinding, use of sheet metal working machines and a variety of hand tools in cutting, bending, forming, shaping, fitting and installing required sheet metal articles, operating metal shop equipment such as a lathe, mill, drill press, and grinder for use in fabricating required maintenance items.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with a valid U.S. Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and client drug screen
  • The Maintenance Welder shall have a broad background in structural maintenance skills. 
  • The individual shall have a High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • At a minimum, the individual shall be qualified for manual shielded metal arc welding of unlimited thickness plate, and square and rectangular tubing, groove and fillet welds, all positions, under American National Standards Institute/American Welding Society (ANSI/AWS) D1.1-90 (structural steel) and ANSI/AWS D14.1-85 (material handling equipment). Qualifications under ANSI/AWS D1.2-90 (structural aluminum) and ANSI/AWS D9.1-90 (sheet metal) are desired.
  • Must possess (or able to obtain) an active DOE L clearance? (Preference will be given to those with an active clearance)
  • Also, it is strongly desired that the individual has at least five (5) years of experience as a welder, with appropriate exposure to and abilities in the other structural maintenance areas discussed above.
