Job Summary


Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a Full Time Mechanical Engineer II in Goleta, CA responsible for the design, fabrication support and modification of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical components, sub-systems and systems.  Projects vary and may include skills with Mechanical Analysis, Aerodynamics/Fluids, Thermal, Fluid Systems, Mechanical Packaging, or others.  Your role will consist of supporting mechanical efforts from the concept generation phase through rapid prototyping and production hand-off.  Position will evaluate and help to recommend the design approach to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services.  Will also investigate solutions to product or process problems.  Key skills include ability to work and investigate assigned tasks in a team setting and collaborate amongst all the technical disciplines to develop technical solutions.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate good judgment combined with technical expertise and will possess an ability to communicate effectively to team members from different disciplines.


Job Responsibilities


•    Generate innovative mechanical designs to support rapid prototyping and integration of new technologies onto military vehicle platforms

•    Develop component and sub-system prototypes to retire key development risks or support new business campaign pursuits

•    Support and participate in technical mechanical engineering activities

•    Responsible for completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements

•    Work closely with an engineering team to conceptualize systems and mechanical designs

•    Perform both system-level and component-level design and integration tasks involving mechanical and electro-mechanical component-level tasks which include determining block diagram, detailed design and 3D modeling, simulation, debug and test

•    Perform the design, development, modification, analysis, and documentation of various mechanical systems

•    Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in existing products or systems and design corrective modifications as needed

•    Perform root cause failure analysis

•    Develop custom fixtures for test, evaluation and manufacturing of mechanical equipment

•    Provide progress status for mechanical design assignments periodically

•    Participate in resolution of technical issues within the company and outside suppliers

•    Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customers as required

•    Conduct root-cause failure analyses of electro-mechanical components

•    Use computer aided design tools to create and update integrated 3D CAD/CAM/CAE mechanical modeling and drawing solutions

•    Ability to work independently under supervision of others

•    May participate in preparation of less complex proposals

•    Attend and participate in appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings

•    Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization


Job Requirements:
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
  • At least 2 years of industry experience
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Experience with using 3D modeling software such as Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, CREO, Unigraphics, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand commercial and/or military mechanical drawings
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools

The pay scale for this position is $76,685.00/year  - $109,660.00/year. The pay scale information is a general guideline only. Several factors can influence the pay scale for a position including but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate’s qualifications such as relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications.
