Job Description SummaryThe Military DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. Separating Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full-time with approved industry partners after unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) provides written authorization and approval. GE Aviation as a Skill Bridge partner offers real-world training and work experience in in-demand fields of work while having the opportunity to evaluate the Service member’s suitability for the work. Military DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from GE Aviation, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members

Job Description

GE Aviation Flight Test Operation is in sunny Victorville, CA. We maintain and operate and Experimental 747-400 Flying Test Bed which is used to develop propulsion system technologies and mature new products. To enable this, we have a talented team spanning a breath of roles, including: mechanics, flight test instrumentation technicians, electrical and mechanical design engineers, flight test and integration engineers, quality personnel and AC/Engine MRO technical operations.

Internship may support any sub-sections within Flight Test Operation.

  • Quality (145 Repair Station, Flight Test)

Roles

Powerplant Specialist: Specialist supporting LEAP-1B engine MRO procedures including engine disassembly, assembly, repair, and hardware disposition.
 

Aircraft Maintenance Specialist: Specialist work in a team environment to perform inspections, troubleshoot, and repair of 747-400 aircraft and/or engines and all associated systems. In addition, you will assist in the assembly and dis-assembly of fielded engine quick turn maintenance.
 

Flight Test Instrumentation Technician (IT): IT’s install, maintain and troubleshoot various types of instrumentation to include, transducers, thermocouples, wiring and data recording equipment in an experimental aircraft for flight tests according to engineering specifications.
 

Flight Test Integration Engineer: Responsible for engine, nacelle, and test enabling hardware configuration and management (faults, assembly, disassembly, inspections); directs planned (inspections, hardware changes) and unplanned activities (instrumentation squawks, hardware changes) on the ground; manages and coordinates overall airframe/engine integration effort.
 

Data System Engineer/Specialist: Designs, manages, and configures all data systems aboard the FTB (WinXA, APEX, FTS); creates and manages test systems monitoring and control screens (Cimplicity); responsible for aircraft and test systems integration (PLC, FTS, Cimplicity)
 

Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer/Specialist: Responsible for instrumentation application and troubleshooting; manages FTB instrumentation configuration; defines and interconnects interfaces between aircraft and test systems (engine, electric generator, pneumatic bleed, fire extinguisher); troubleshoots and provides support of aircraft electrical, instrumentation and pressure systems during test missions.
 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain effective communications with team members, support organization and customers. Communicate work product to the appropriate persons.
  • Capture lessons learned and problem solve to continually improve processes.
  • Ensures that work performed is properly documented and complies with written policies, procedures, industry standards, and FAA regulations as applicable.
  • Ensure all materials, equipment and parts being used are appropriate and meet the standards and requirements set by the applicable Manuals and/or approved technical documentation.
  • Support and perform work in compliance to all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies and regulations
  • Specific responsibilities will vary based on job function.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
     

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Active Military Personnel
  • Ability and willingness to work off-shift hours when business needs dictate.
  • High school diploma / GED with additional experience in operation, quality, manufacturing, assembly, or test of aerospace equipment
  • Some roles may prefer or require:
    • FAA Airframe and Powerplant License
    • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college in aviation sciences, quality systems, engineering, or related technical discipline
       

Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong mechanical or electrical skills and aptitude
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently, contribute to and collaborate with team to effectively deliver on priorities.
  • Proficient in the use of a computer systems and tools to navigate Online documents, drawings, and instructions.
  • Familiarity with aerospace maintenance, test, and operations
  • Experience with maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft and turbine engines
  • Experience with maintenance planning and maintaining technical records for aircraft
