NDE LEVEL II INSPECTOR

The Nondestructive Evaluation operations organization at SpaceX is an inclusive, inter-disciplinary team that is committed to providing high quality inspections of flight components and production assemblies. The breadth of exposure as an NDE Level Inspector is immense, as the organization is responsible for a broad range of inspection types across Falcon, Dragon, Starship, and Raptor programs. You will have the ability to engage with the process to provide continuous improvement to execute on the mission to make humanity interplanetary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform surface and volumetric NDE inspections
• Interpret, evaluate, communicate, and report findings to production and engineering teams
• Interpret and review engineering drawings as required
• Support the development of NDE inspection techniques for complex geometries
• Assist with training and developing other team members
• Support research and development into full matrix capture phased array ultrasonic for operational improvement and optimization

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• Nondestructive Evaluation Level II certification in line with ASNT TC-1A, NAS-410, or DOD guidance in one of the following methods: Eddy current (ET), radiography (RT), digital radiography (DR), dye penetrant (PT), visual inspection (VT), computed radiography (CR), phase array (PAUT), ultrasonic (UT), ultrasonic shear wave (UTSW), or magnetic particle (MT)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Experience performing volumetric NDE inspections with advanced phased array ultrasonics: Triple transducer crawler arrangement
• 2+ years of experience as a level II NDE/NDT inspector
• Additional nondestructive evaluation Level II certifications in line with ASNT TC-1A, NAS-410, or DOD guidance in one of the following methods: Eddy current (ET), radiography (RT), digital radiography (DR), dye penetrant (PT), visual inspection (VT), computed radiography (CR), phase array (PAUT), ultrasonic (UT), ultrasonic shear wave (UTSW), or magnetic particle (MT)
• American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
• Operational experience using eddy current systems for the inspection of weldments
• Operational experience in the use of single coil inspection probes and associated systems
• Knowledge of Olympus Tomoview software
• Hands on experience using portable digital equipment such as Olympus EPOCH 600
• Knowledge of Uniwest/Nortec eddy current machines or equivalent
• Knowledge of AMS, AWS/ASME, ASTM standards and procedures
• Knowledge of NASA 5009 standards
• Experience performing NDE testing within the aerospace industry
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
• Experience inspecting advanced materials such as high strength aluminum alloys, precipitation hardened steels, inconel, monel, titanium, composites, and maraging steel (super alloys)
• Knowledge of UTEX InspectionWare software or equivalent
• Experience with problem solving tools and techniques including: practical problem solving (PPS), and eight disciplines (8D)
• Basic understanding of Lean principles: 5S, Kaizen, continuous improvement initiative

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Able and willing to travel to various SpaceX sites as needed
• Ability to pass Air Force and Space Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
• Must be able to lift 25lbs unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, and walk
• Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends to meet critical deadlines if needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
NDE Inspector/Level 1: $25.25 - $34.00/hour
NDE Inspector/Level 2: $30.75 - $41.75/hour
NDE Inspector/Level 3: $36.25 - $49.25/hour
NDE Inspector/Level 4: $41.75 - $56.75/hour
NDE Inspector/Level 5: $47.25 - $64.00/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
