Job Description SummaryGE Aerospace is seeking an experienced design engineer to support the Next Generation Products (NGP) organization. The NGP Staff Design Engineer contributes and provides technical guidance to the design and development of Edison Works NPI products including design, test and qualification of propulsion system components. Staff design engineers will be responsible for executing technical design tasks for complicated components or sub-systems of components including analysis, manufacturing support, and test of assigned hardware in addition to program management of hardware cost, weight, & schedule deliverables. As a Staff Engineer, you will function with autonomy and provide guidance to others less experienced in the design process of these components. Opportunities to lead larger teams and cross-functional processes also exist.

The NGP organization is responsible for the design, analysis, integration, and support of future military engine products. Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of hot components for advanced military products.
  • Adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, & product requirements.
  • Leverage prior mechanical design experience and broaden knowledge of ones own technical discipline to meet product deliverables within schedule & budget constraints.
  • Demonstrate systems thinking mentality to understand how work of ones team integrates with others to achieve product requirements.
  • Exhibit autonomy to make decisions within a defined requirements framework while resolving design challenges in situations which require technical knowledge & judgment.
  • Mentors less experienced team members.
  • Reviews designs & consults with senior technical leaders for evaluation of work.
  • This role will require sound interpersonal skills to develop strong internal and external customer relationships by serving as an interface point within GE.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a design engineering position.
  • Must have or have the ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance at the Secret level.

Desired Characteristics

  • Masters degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in a mechanical design engineering position.
  • Highly motivated, passionate, and exceptional communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze & solve technical design challenges with sound documentation, planning, & program management skills.
  • Experience with finite element analysis software such as ANSYS Classic, ANSYS Workbench, and 3D modelling software such as NX Unigraphics.
  • Programming experience with languages such as Python.
  • Experience with structural component design.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Holding an existing US Government Security Clearance.
