The role is a high-level Controlled Title engineer. You will guide and mentor the global and domestic teams who work the mechanical systems design of the RISE engine and technology maturation rig tests with the objective to mature the designs and technology to meet the program objectives and deliver competitive products that will significantly improve performance over todays state of the art.

The design activities will include all disciplines of mechanical systems design. The programs being supported range from pre Concept Design Review to post-Detailed Design Review/hardware delivery. During the design phase, the team will be concurrently testing and maturing technologies to support these full-scale engine demonstration tests.

The objective is also to improve the state-of-the-art of mechanical systems design by opening the design space and introducing new technologies to improve engine efficiency and reduce industry carbon emissions.

This position has the flexibility of optional hybrid schedule once fully trained. The hybrid schedule consists of working in the office minimum of 3 days per week and the option to work from home on the other days, based on team/project schedules.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Guide, mentor, and support team in all technical areas at a Principal Engineer Level
  • Have high levels of interaction with and exposure: to engineers from multiple disciplines, manufacturing & quality, and regularly exposed to commodity and industry experts.
  • At least twice a year, with opportunities for more frequent, travel to the various manufacturing sites.
  • Execute the engineering analysis and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles to improve manufacturability and technical robustness of assigned components and guide.
  • Use engineering judgement and experience to challenge entrenched processes and methodology to recommend improvements.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of engineering & manufacturing, analytical thinking, and technical experience to execute on technically complex projects to meet technical requirements and business goals with minimal technical oversight.
  • Lead technical projects with moderate to high levels of complexity through collaboration with field and industry experts.
  • Explain information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Engineering.

Desired Characteristics

  • Masters degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Previous experience in laying out new bearing/sump designs
  • 10+ years of experience in aerospace propulsion system mechanical design
  • Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams.
  • Significant experience with Ansys and Unigraphics.
  • Significant practical experience with GD&T.
  • Documented experience of being a self-starter with a passion for problem solving and driving solutions, while constantly learning and mentoring others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Established project management skills
