Job Title: Quality Control Inspector
Job Description
The Quality Control Inspector researches technical data and performs detailed inspections on hangared aircraft undergoing heavy maintenance checks, flightline and storage induction or reactivation, and back shop repair and overhaul activities. This role ensures all work complies with applicable aircraft and component maintenance manuals, FAA regulations, and internal policies and procedures, while upholding stringent quality standards across material receiving, shipping, storage, handling, repair, and overhaul operations.
Responsibilities
- Research technical data and apply appropriate aircraft and component maintenance manuals, FAA regulations, and company procedures to all inspection activities.
- Inspect hangared aircraft during heavy maintenance checks, as well as aircraft undergoing flightline or storage induction, reactivation, and back shop repair or overhaul.
- Enforce quality control standards for material receiving, shipping, storage, handling, repairs, and overhauls to ensure all specifications, tolerances, and standards set by the manufacturer and internal policies are met.
- Inspect aircraft components during assembly, installation, and adjustment to verify that workmanship and materials conform to manufacturer specifications and maintenance manual procedures.
- Ensure all work-in-progress is properly documented, including clear descriptions of work performed and corrective actions taken, with appropriate technical data references recorded in the corrective action and work-in-progress steps.
- Record all inspection data on the correct forms, reports, and inspection tags, and promptly escalate any irregularities or unsafe practices to the Lead Inspector.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs on company equipment and support general shop housekeeping to maintain a safe and organized work area.
- Test the tightness and integrity of airframe connections using hand tools, and utilize flashlights and mirrors to inspect the fit and alignment of parts.
- Examine the assembly, installation, and adjustment of control surfaces such as ailerons and rudders to confirm compliance with regulations, company specifications, and manual procedures.
- Verify the accuracy of component installation in powerplant and hydraulic systems using tools such as protractors, micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure specified tolerances are met.
- Approve inspected units by signing inspection tags or document reasons for rejecting units that do not meet standards.
- Log all inspections performed on aircraft in accordance with established documentation requirements.
- Support inspections and related work on commercial airframes, including large transport aircraft such as those used in cargo conversion programs.
- Comply with all safety procedures and use required protective equipment when working around high noise levels, temperature extremes, moving machinery, unprotected heights, and fuel tanks.
Essential Skills
- 3–5+ years of experience in aircraft inspection, quality control, or a closely related aviation maintenance role.
- Demonstrated experience inspecting commercial aircraft airframes and associated systems.
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulations and compliance requirements applicable to aircraft maintenance and inspection.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply aircraft and component maintenance manuals and technical data.
- Proficiency in using precision measurement tools such as protractors, micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify tolerances.
- Ability to use common hand tools to test airframe connections and inspect the fit of parts.
- Solid understanding of aircraft powerplant and hydraulic systems installation requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, including logging inspections and completing inspection tags, forms, and reports.
- Ability to identify nonconformities and clearly document reasons for rejection of units or components.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally crawl, climb, and lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Adequate eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
- Willingness and ability to comply with FAA drug testing and back ground check requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license highly preferred.
- Experience working in a heavy maintenance or modification environment, including cargo conversion programs, is beneficial.
- Familiarity with quality assurance practices in a Part 145 repair station environment is an advantage.
- Basic personal tool set appropriate for aircraft inspection and maintenance tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with inspection, maintenance, and production teams across the facility.
- Strong communication skills to effectively report findings and escalate irregularities.
- High level of professionalism, reliability, and commitment to safety and quality.
- Openness to contract-to-hire arrangements, with conversion to direct employment based on attitude and performance.

Work Environment
This role is based in an active aircraft maintenance and modification facility, primarily supporting a B777 cargo conversion program, with the possibility of assignments across the wider property as operational needs require. The typical schedule follows first shift (Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) or second shift (Monday–Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.), with overtime worked only when pre-approved. The physical environment requires extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking, along with frequent bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level. You may occasionally crawl, climb, and lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds without assistance. Work involves the use of equipment such as hydraulic press brakes, power shears, forming equipment, hand tools, lift equipment, stands, ladders, glass beading equipment, rivet guns, and drills. You will work around high-intensity noise, temperature extremes, materials listed on Safety Data Sheets, moving machinery, unprotected heights, and aircraft fuel tanks. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required and provided, including goggles, safety glasses, face shields, ear protection, aprons, gloves, and safety harnesses.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $39.12 - $47.00/hr.
