Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and inspecting aircraft structures to ensure safe and reliable operations in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. You will work on structural components such as frames, skins, bulkheads, and corrosion repairs, as well as fabricate doublers and structural parts from engineering drawings. The position requires strong proficiency in sheet metal practices, the ability to interpret technical data and regulatory requirements, and the capability to perform high‑quality work with minimal supervision in a busy maintenance environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and inspect aircraft structures to ensure safe operation in accordance with FAA guidelines and company procedures.
- Repair structural components including frames, skins, bulkheads, and other primary and secondary structure on a variety of business aircraft.
- Perform corrosion removal and repair, including proper surface preparation and treatment.
- Fabricate and install doublers, brackets, and other structural parts using sheet metal fabrication techniques and standard tooling.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and supporting technical data to develop and execute structural repairs.
- Work with Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs) as needed to develop and approve repair solutions.
- Read, interpret, and apply requirements from Structural Repair Manuals (SRM), AC 43.13, FAR 43 Appendix A, and other applicable technical publications.
- Carry out heavy maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) structural work and, ideally, aircraft modifications as assigned.
- Perform troubleshooting and inspection of structural issues on corporate and business aircraft, identifying defects and determining appropriate repair methods.
- Use standard mechanic and sheet metal tools safely and effectively to drill, rivet, fit, and assemble structural components.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other support staff to coordinate work, clarify requirements, and report progress.
- Perform additional aircraft maintenance duties, within your capabilities, as assigned by leadership.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
- Follow all applicable FAR Parts 145, 135, 91, 43, and 65 requirements as they relate to daily maintenance activities.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, housekeeping standards, and documentation requirements in the hangar and work areas.
Essential Skills
- 4+ years of hands-on sheet metal and aircraft structures experience, including heavy MRO structural repairs.
- Proven experience with sheet metal fabrication, including forming, cutting, drilling, and riveting structural parts.
- Demonstrated ability to fabricate and install doublers, brackets, and similar structural reinforcements from engineering drawings.
- Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and supporting technical data.
- Thorough familiarity with Structural Repair Manuals (SRM) and application of AC 43.13 and FAR 43 Appendix A to structural repairs.
- Working knowledge of FAA regulations including FAR Parts 145, 135, 91, 43, and 65 as they apply to aircraft maintenance.
- Experience performing structural repairs and meeting structural requirements on Part 25 aircraft.
- Ability to work unsupervised and manage assigned tasks to completion while maintaining quality and safety.
- Effective verbal communication skills to collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other support staff.
- Ownership of standard mechanic and sheet metal tooling suitable for aircraft structural work.
- Physical ability to stand, lie, kneel, and work in awkward positions and confined spaces, including on scaffolding or ladders.
- Capability to lift and pull objects weighing up to 70 pounds and operate tools requiring manual dexterity and strength.
- Adequate visual acuity to inspect equipment and identify structural defects, and hearing sufficient to evaluate aircraft sounds and functioning.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience working on a wide variety of business and corporate aircraft such as Gulfstream, Citation, Learjet, Challenger, Hawker, Beechjet, King Air, Cessna, Falcon, and similar models.
- Strong experience in aircraft structural repair, sheet metal repair, and aircraft modification within an MRO or similar environment.
- Experience troubleshooting structural issues on corporate aircraft and coordinating repairs.
- Previous experience with an FAA Part 145 Repair Station or a Part 135 operator (preferred but not required).
- FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant (A&P) certificate (preferred but not required for the right candidate).
- General knowledge of airframe systems and aircraft maintenance practices beyond structures is beneficial.
- Familiarity with corporate aviation operations and expectations for quality, appearance, and turnaround time.

Work Environment
This position is based in an active aircraft maintenance hangar environment on a first-shift schedule, typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some overtime as needed. Work takes place in a hangar that does not have air conditioning, so temperatures can vary with the seasons and require comfort working in warm or cool conditions. You will regularly work on and around corporate and business aircraft using standard mechanic and sheet metal tools, scaffolding, and ladders. The role involves standing, kneeling, lying down, and working in confined or awkward spaces on aircraft structures, as well as lifting and pulling components up to 70 pounds. Visual and auditory awareness are important for safely inspecting aircraft and identifying defects or unusual sounds. Standard hangar safety practices, personal protective equipment, and appropriate work attire suitable for an industrial maintenance setting are expected.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
