Job Description
This role supports a busy repair station at Fort Lauderdale Airport, focusing on light and heavy structural modifications on corporate and commercial aircraft. You will perform complex sheet metal repairs, fabrications, and modifications in accordance with approved data and FAA regulations, contributing to both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in a fast-paced aviation environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform light and heavy structural modifications on corporate and commercial aircraft in accordance with approved data and FAA regulations.
- Fabricate, install, and repair aircraft sheet metal components, including skins, frames, stringers, doublers, ribs, and structural assemblies.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, Structural Repair Manuals (SRMs), Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMMs), and detailed work instructions.
- Perform structural repairs using approved FAA data, including DER, OEM, and engineering dispositions.
- Lay out, form, cut, drill, deburr, and assemble sheet metal parts using appropriate tools, techniques, and best practices.
- Install and remove structural components using rivets, fasteners, and bonding methods in accordance with specifications.
- Operate sheet metal equipment such as shears, brakes, presses, drills, and forming tools safely and effectively.
- Conduct detailed inspections of completed work to verify quality, structural integrity, and airworthiness compliance.
- Accurately document all maintenance, repairs, and modification work in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area while consistently following all safety procedures and guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to complete modification and repair projects on schedule.
- Support both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities in a high-tempo hangar environment.
- Perform structures repair tasks including doubler and intercostal installations, heavy structures work, and aircraft modifications such as Wi-Fi (Starlink) installations.
- Support line maintenance, hangar maintenance, and phase maintenance activities as needed on various aircraft platforms.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 3+ years of aircraft sheet metal and structures experience in a corporate or commercial aviation environment.
- Proven hands-on experience performing structural repairs and heavy modifications on aircraft.
- Strong experience in heavy structures and sheet metal work within an MRO environment.
- Experience with aircraft modifications, including Wi-Fi and Starlink-related structural modifications.
- Proficiency working with aluminum and aircraft-grade materials for structural repairs and fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, SRMs, AMMs, and technical manuals.
- Demonstrated skill in sheet metal repairs, fabrication, and aircraft modification, including riveting and drilling.
- Experience performing doubler and intercostal installations on aircraft structures.
- Familiarity with aircraft maintenance and repair practices for corporate and commercial aircraft.
- Strong understanding of FAA regulations and the use of approved maintenance data (DER, OEM, engineering dispositions).
- Experience using precision measuring tools and sheet metal fabrication equipment such as shears, brakes, presses, drills, and forming tools.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to work overtime as required to meet operational needs.
- Ownership of required hand tools suitable for aircraft sheet metal and structures work.
- No A&P certificate required for this position.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a Part 145 Repair Station environment.
- Heavy maintenance, line maintenance, and hangar maintenance operations.
- Experience on business jets and corporate aircraft platforms such as Gulfstream (G400, G450, G500, G550, G600, G650, G700, G280), Falcon, Bombardier, Learjet, and other corporate aircraft.
- Exposure to commercial aircraft platforms and mixed-fleet maintenance environments.
- Familiarity with powerplant and powerplant mechanic activities in support of airframe work.
- Experience in aviation and military aviation environments is beneficial.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced MRO and repair station setting with a focus on quality and safety.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with engineering, quality, and maintenance personnel.

Work Environment
This position is based in a hangar environment at Fort Lauderdale Airport, supporting a repair station focused on corporate and commercial aircraft. You will work around active aircraft, ground support equipment, and sheet metal fabrication tools such as shears, brakes, presses, drills, and forming equipment. The schedule currently follows a PM-oriented structure with two primary shift patterns: Sunday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday. Over time, the operation plans to expand to two to three shifts, providing additional scheduling flexibility. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with an emphasis on organization, cleanliness, and adherence to maintenance and regulatory standards.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.00 - $50.00/hr.
