Job Description SummaryAs a Specialist in the Aerospace Research Structures and Analysis Methods Lab, you will support research and development in structural design and analysis, for a wide range of aerospace applications. The specialist will support CAD generation / manipulation, finite element meshing and model pre-processing for FEA and/or CFD models. Additionally, the specialist will maintain ownership of in-house tools and workflows, for delivering CAD and meshes according to established design standards.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop FEA meshes for complex geometries, using commercial and/or in-house tools.  
  • Generate and update 3D CAD geometries according to requirements of finite element analysis modeling procedures.
  • Assist in the design and analysis tasks using proprietary and commercial FEA solvers, analysis systems and databases to predict the structural response of mechanical components and systems. 
  • Maintain ownership of modeling workflows for CAD, meshing, and analysis steps. 
  • Work with project team and business counterparts to meet project deliverables.
  • Prepare and participate in project and technical reviews.  Deliver presentations, reports, and publications to engineering staff, GE businesses and/or external agencies.
  • Provide expertise to help resolve technical challenges across the organization.
  • Foster a multidisciplinary and inclusive team environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline and at least 3 years’ experience in finite element meshing and CAD;
  • Experience with meshing and FEA packages such as Altair Hypermesh, Ansys, etc.
  • Experience with parametric, feature-based geometric modeling, hands-on experience with commercial and CAD packages (NX, SOLIDWORKS, Creo, etc.). 
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills in a global team environment.
  • Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship. 

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with design and optimization for additive manufacturing. 
  • Experience with Ansys Workbench scripting and customization.
  • Experience with structural optimization codes such as OptiStruct. 
  • Experience with impact and progressive damage simulations. 
  • Experience with product design constraints, manufacturing processes and material processing

The base pay range for this position is $60,000 - $110,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on April 16, 2024
