Position Purpose:
In a team-oriented work environment, under minimal supervision, the Structural Mechanic II performs a variety of structural assembly operations in a production department following established operating procedures. All work performed should be in accordance with company design specifications, quality standards, and meet customer expectations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
  • Assembly and Fitting: Safely perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures, varied drilling, and riveting operations, ensuring parts/assembly meet requirements.
  • Riveting and Fastening: Rivet structural assemblies and parts using required tools, displaying the ability to remove fasteners without damaging structures.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine sequence of operations, type size, and hole pattern for rivets.
  • Quality Control: Check all work and ensure a defective-free assembly prior to final inspection.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain and use all logs and records (e.g., MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, PCOs).
  • Part Alignment and Assembly: Align and assemble parts to be riveted using jigs, holding fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners.
  • Repair and Rework: Make repairs per Discrepant Material Tags (DMT), Material Review Request (MRR), Production Change Orders (PCO), and perform necessary rework to ensure installations meet conformity.
  • Work Area Maintenance: Maintain a neat and orderly work area, support the company 5S Program, and comply with all safety regulations.
Additional Functions:
  • Waste Disposal: Properly collect and dispose of waste fuel, oil, hydraulic fluids, de-icing fluids, and solvent rags.
  • Job Charging: Ensure accurate daily job charging to the aircraft.
  • Shift Coordination: Exchange job-related information and coordinate work activities between shifts.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Assist in maintaining shop equipment and associated JSAs.
  • Lean Activities Support: Support Lean Activities.
Other Requirements:
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Computer and Math Skills: Basic computer skills and basic shop math skills.
  • Measurement and Calculation: Must be able to read a scale and perform basic shop math.
  • Document Comprehension: Read and comprehend basic documents and instructions.
  • Personal Skills: Must have essential personal skills, including an aptitude for hands-on craftwork, a professional attitude, attention to detail, ability to work with people, and meet demanding schedules.
  • Housekeeping and Safety: Must demonstrate good housekeeping and safety practices.
  • Composite Materials: Ability to work with composite resins and materials.
  • Shift Flexibility: Must be able to work any shift.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to climb ladders/stands/stairs, work in small spaces or restricted areas, and lift 50 lbs.
  • Language: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
