Safran are recruiting for a level 3 qualified/Time served TIG Welder based on site at Safran, Burnley. Please note, whilst this is a contract initially, most contractors are progressed to a permanent role within 6-18 months.
The initial working hours will be a choice of Dayshifts as per below:
4 Day weekday shift options:-
06:30am – 16:15 Mon – Thurs
07:00am – 16:45 Mon – Thurs
4.5 weekday shift options:-
Monday – Friday.
Also availability of the following shifts:-
- Remain on Dayshift.
- Night shift (Mon – Thurs), with attractive shift premium.
- Weekend Shift (Fri, Sat & Sun), with attractive shift premium & totals a 31 hour working week.
Rate information (Please enquire if unclear on Umbrella payment) :
Days - 18.25 per hour PAYE PLUS 2.65 holiday pay/ 24.36 Umbrella
Nights - 23.73 per hour PAYE plus 3.45 holiday pay / 31.77 Umbrella
Weekend Shift - 28.09 per hour PAYE plus 4.08 holiday pay/ 37.49 Umbrella
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform TIG welding on a variety of aerospace-grade metals including stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and aluminum.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding procedures.
- Conduct visual inspections and measurements to ensure welds meet required specifications and tolerances.
- Set up and operate welding equipment and tools in accordance with safety standards.
- Maintain weld logs and complete relevant documentation in line with Safran’s quality management system.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and reporting defects, inefficiencies, or safety hazards.
- Work collaboratively with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve any fabrication or assembly issues.
- Adhere strictly to aerospace quality standards such as AS9100, NADCAP, and company-specific certifications.
- Participate in training, audits, and re-certification as required to maintain qualifications.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in TIG welding, ideally within aerospace, defense, or precision engineering.
- Ability to pass Safran’s weld tests and obtain/maintain relevant certifications (e.g., EN 9606, AWS D17.1).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and weld symbols.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations and the ability to maintain a safe work environment.
- Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Welding, Fabrication, or a related discipline.
- Experience with aerospace quality standards and audit processes.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
