Job SummaryResponsible for assessing the integrity of instrument approaches and airway procedures that constitute the Canadian Air Navigation System infrastructure to provide en-route and precision approach guidance to ensure safe aircraft movement from departure to arrival.

Performs safe and efficient airborne inspections of all space and ground based instrument flight procedures; validates electronic signals in space against International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assesses facility and approach performance and decides on required actions to meet compulsory standards
  • Conducts airborne assessments; evaluates and directs all facility adjustments; selects and performs contingency procedures; executes specific tests; analyzes results and authorizes operational use.
  • Completes on-the-job training for new employees
  • Conducts facility tracking, FIS database management, AIM service design support, creates procedures and training documentation
  • Provides mission and inspection coordination to Technical Operations; coordinates mission details; participates in pilot briefings; produces on-site inspection plans for co-ordination with engineering, local airport authorities, etc.
  • Provides inspection communications. Communicates with station staff, pilot, etc. enabling successful completion of inspection; identifies issues; generates inspection reports; explains abnormalities or deficiencies while in the aircraft or on the ground at the facility under evaluation
  • Completes detailed analysis of inspection results for audit reports        
  • Provides surveys of navigational aids and airport environments utilized as an accountable source for publication of results; utilizes survey equipment to track aircraft movements

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent and a recognized diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Computer Sciences, Electronics Engineering Technology or an equivalent program (or equivalent work experience)

Experience:

  • Experience in the maintenance of complex electronic equipment
  • Exposure to the monitoring or maintenance of Radio Frequency (RF) equipment
  • Exposure to air navigation systems would be considered an asset

Knowledge (45):

  • Knowledge of electronic theory, computer systems, and network management
  • Knowledge of techniques and practices to maintain and certify electronic equipment and systems
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance schedules and priorities
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques
     

Abilities (30):

  • Excellent fault finding skills
  • Audit / verification skills are required to assess compliance with standards and procedures
  • Analytical skills to interpret or analyze information, reports and data

Personal Suitability (25):

  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions under pressure

Working conditions:

  • This position is eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
  • Travel required.
  • The employee will be required to work irregular hours while travelling which can also include night flying.
