MISSION:

To assemble complex components including pattern and gating systems in a fashion to produce finished mold forms to be invested.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Preparation:

Objective: to inspect patterns and determine assembly methods.

Typical Activities:

  1. Pre-inspects pattern and gating components prior to start of assembly.
  2. Reads and follows technique card assembly instructions, which describe multiple assembly steps of a complex nature.

  1. Essential Job Functions:

Assembly:

Objective: to accurately assemble complex multicomponent patterns and maintain dimensional integrity.

Typical Activities:

  1. Assembles complex wax patterns and gating components by means of torch, hot pencils, dip seal wax, and a variety of hand tools.
  2. Seals gates into place by means of dip seal wax, torch or hot pencil.
  3. Assembles complex patterns using full-time assembly fixturing to maintain dimensional control and stability.
  4. Manipulates fixture/pattern components to remove configuration discrepancies and verify dimensional integrity.
  5. Smoothes and gauges the area around each assembly contact by means of hot pencil, torch or paint seal.
  6. Inspects difficult assemblies during and after the assembly process for defects and quality.

Mold Machine Operation:

Objective: To operate moderately complex molding machines accurately and efficiently using technique cards and established setup procedures. To maintain dimensional integrity of product.

Typical Activities:

  1. Sets up, monitors, and controls mold machine functions.
  2. Keeps dies clean during molding operations.
  3. Removes wax parts from die, inspects for defects, and trims.
  4. Cleans wax parts as required.
  5. Completes logs and records; documents any modifications

  1. Safety.

Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.

Typical Activities:

  1. Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
  2. Safely operates all equipment and tools.
  3. Identifies and reports safety problems.

May train less skilled assemblers as assigned.

Performs other tasks as assigned.

ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT, MACHINERY AND/OR TOOLS USED:

  1. Pry bars
  2. Side cutters and/or knives
  3. Mallets
  4. Torches and air nozzles
  5. Air ratchet
  6. Wrenches; allen and crescent
  7. Power drill
  8. Flashlight
  9. Hoist
  10. Dental picks
  11. Mold Machines
  12. Dip Sealing Wax Tank

TRAINING:

  1. Training is provided on the job.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two years of production wax assembly experience preferred

OR

Two years of Mold Machine Operator B or A experience

OR

An equivalent combination of experience and training.


  1. Thorough knowledge of assembly techniques, methods, materials, fixturing and contruction.
  2. Ability to follow and communicate complex written and verbal instructions,and to perform arithmetic calculations.
  3. Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds
  4. Ability to work in conditions which may include exposure to noise, fumes, crowding, awkward physical positions, abrasions, cuts, and chemicals.
  5. Skill in wax injection molding operations, as demonstrated by three to six months of competent performance in any wax molding utility, leach tank or core/gate cleaner positions.
