PURPOSE:


Under general supervision, perform all required production operations to assemble basic to semi-complex assembled molds for shelling operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Visually check individual pattern parts for surface defects; makes required repairs.
  • Work from samples and any required special instructions to assemble patterns and runner systems, position and secure supports, metal chills, and other components and parts according to individual job requirements.
  • Blend and smooth joints and connections, perform other associated duties to insure proper setup and gating of pattern for molding.
  • Exercise care in the handling of patterns and completed units to avoid distortion of breakage, and to assure proper positioning of a wide variety of parts, components, supports, chills, vents, gates, and other features.
  • Upon completion, prepare necessary forms pertinent to operation, and dispose of patterns as directed.
  • Constructs complete runner systems for wax and plastic patterns; places and secures sprues, gates, cores, vents, risers, and other supports to obtain desired set-up.
  • Cuts and forms wax supports using hands and hand tools.
  • Constructs set-ups and notifies supervisor if completed dimension does not conform to engineering specifications.
  • Uses creative ability and experience in preparing and determining gating set-up to control cost of operations.
  • Work involves a variety of hand operations requiring a high degree of manual dexterity and close visual attention to properly position and blend a large number of parts, and to maintain complex inter-relationships and close dimensional tolerances in order to assure acceptable parts.
  • Detect and report defective materials, equipment and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Perform a variety of other tasks of equal or less complexity as assigned by supervisor, or as required by position.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain production standards with acceptable quality.
  • Must be willing and able to cross train and work in other departments/areas.
    Demonstrates the ability to read, understand and complete all department and/or production documents.
  • Must be able to set up and assemble all routine production molds and some experimental molds.
  • Ability to inspect patterns for defects such as air bubbles, repair and remove flash, and radius fillets and edges.
  • Ability to satisfy Repairer “C” job qualifications
  • Requires the use of judgment to construct set-ups and runner systems, positions and secure parts, check work, make repairs, and perform duties effectively.
  • Establishes written/photographic gating procedures for new jobs.
  • Occasionally lifts and moves material weighting 15-35 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity essential.
  • Continuous mental or visual attention in positioning and securing parts, maintaining relationships, checking work, and making required repairs.
  • Demonstrated proficiency to safely operate - Hot plates, Hot knives, Torches, Dip Tank

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to the Wax lead person and the Wax supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Over one year experience.
  • Use of basic mathematics, ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to perform routine arithmetic computation.
  • Keep records, files, and makes reports.
  • Works from verbal/written instructions, sketches, specifications, and drawings.
  • Interprets scales, calipers, and gauges, etc., involving interpretation.
