Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.

Joby is seeking an experienced aircraft maintenance professional to join our Workforce Development team as an Aircraft Maintenance Training Program Manager and Instructor. This individual will be responsible for designing and delivering training programs for individuals aspiring to pursue a career as an aircraft mechanic. A key focus will be the development of a curriculum for a new Light Sport Repairman - Maintenance certification program and providing instruction to cohorts of trainees. This position will also develop an apprenticeship program aimed at providing apprentices with the necessary knowledge and practical experience to obtain their Mechanic Certification with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing individuals with an earlier, more affordable onramp to a career in aviation maintenance, and a skill for designing and delivering new, innovative training programs.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a comprehensive curriculum for the Light Sport Repairman - Maintenance certification program, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Create engaging instructional materials to be delivered both online and in person.
  • Conduct instructor-led training sessions for cohorts of trainees, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques to facilitate effective learning experiences.
  • Design an apprenticeship program to provide trainees with the knowledge and experience required for a Mechanic Certification with A&P ratings.
  • Develop assessments and evaluation methods to measure learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including subject matter experts, aircraft engineers, and maintenance technicians, to incorporate practical, hands-on experiences into training programs.
  • Instill a strong culture of safety and adherence to protocols in all training activities.
  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of training programs and make recommendations to address evolving industry requirements and feedback from trainees.
  • Support education outreach, workforce development programs, and career fairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • FAA Mechanic Certificate with an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) rating.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working on general aviation aircraft of 6,000 pounds or less or an FAA DAR with function codes 46, 47, or 48.
  • Experience providing training or instruction.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work permanently in the USA and willing to work daily in Marina, California.
  • Formal academic education or skills training in instructional design, academic programs, or learning and development.
Desired
  • Formal academic educatin or skills training in instructional design, academic programs, or learning and development.
  • Experience with FAA-approved training programs for the certification of aircraft mechanics (14 CFR Parts 65 or 147).
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and/or other training software.

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $83,400 - $141,500/k. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
