Position Responsibilities: 

  • Contributes to and generally supports efforts relating to Amentum’s SafeUp® Program. 

  • Serves as a liaison with various Antarctica Support Contract (ASC) work centers and agencies and Antarctica New Zealand (AntNZ) personnel to ensure accurate and efficient cargo/passenger operations for both day and night shifts.  

  • Coordinates transportation assets, personnel support, and equipment necessary to successfully conduct Antarctic Terminal Operations (ATO) functions at multiple airfields. 

  • Maintains operational control over the Movement Control Center (MCC) cargo yards, cargo bay, airfields, and equipment. 

  • Provides operational direction to ATO cargo and airfield personnel, and indirect operational direction for passenger services and shuttles personnel. 

  • Supervises Airfield Shift Supervisor, Load Planner, and Air Transportation Specialist II positions. 

  • Evaluates employees performance throughout the season and provides end-of-season evaluations. 

  • Responsible for training Load Planners and overseeing training for all other cargo personnel. 

  • Responsible for the quality assurance of aircraft pallets, including hazardous segregation and proper restraint, aircraft load plans, and hazardous material documentation. 

  • Implements standard operating procedures and assists in the review and revision of operating procedures, as required. 

  • Interfaces with USAP Cargo staff, Cargo Coordinators, Fixed Wing personnel, and/or grantees to coordinate cargo priorities for all outgoing flights. 

  • Ensures established priorities for passenger and cargo movements are adhered to for each outgoing flight. 

  • Assists with the proper handling and monitoring of call forward or priority passenger/cargo requests. 

  • Serves as the ATO point of contact (POC) for passenger and cargo issues in the absence of the Passenger Services Supervisor, Vehicle Operations Supervisor, MCC Supervisor and/or USAP Cargo Supervisor. 

  • Helps field and troubleshoot cargo queries regarding aircraft loading issues, cargo/passenger priorities, and any other ATO-related discrepancies that may arise. 

  • Assists the MCC Supervisor with completing safety/accident/incident reports. 

  • Interacts with the National Science Foundation (NSF), military personnel, and other agency officials in a professional and tactful manner. 

  • Plans and conducts daily/weekly safety meetings and maintains attendance and subject matter documentation. 

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace. 

  • Performs other duties as required. 

 

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least two years’ experience in aviation/transportation including managing staff schedules, data management and resource tracking. An additional four years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.  

  • Airlift Mobility Command (AMC) Load Planner Certification must be attained prior to deployment; training is provided if current certification is not already held. 

  • A minimum of two years of supervisory or leadership experience. 

 

Expected Skills and Competencies: 

  • Intermediate skills working within Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)  

  • Strong multi-tasking, organization, interpersonal, and customer service skills. 

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment. 

 

Preferred: 

  • Previous experience with remote site logistics, preferably with the USAP. 

  • Knowledge of passenger and cargo movement functions, including transport aircraft types, capabilities, and configurations; weight and balance factors; airlift transportation directives and documentation; cargo securing techniques; and interpreting and following aircraft load plans. Familiarity with automated data processing programs such as MAXIMO and ICODES. 

 

Physical and/or Other Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods  

  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica 

  • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer 

  • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF 

  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.  

  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.  

  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.  

  • Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States 

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
