Boeing Defence UK is excited to announce an opportunity to join their extensive Safety Management System (SMS) team, which focuses on providing safety for products and services. The successful candidate will become part of a large, multidisciplinary SMS team of experienced professionals.
This role will require travel to various BDUK locations and collaboration with multiple functions and departments. Responsibilities will include delivery, development, and enhancement of Human Factors and SMS training, as well as the creation of in-house training solutions and the execution of the SMS safety promotion program.
The role offers the opportunity to shape the SMS training and promotion strategy for BDUK and therefore someone with an eye for detail and experience in working across multiple sites and departments would be an ideal candidate.
Additionally, this position offers opportunities to engage with the broader Boeing Enterprise, which may involve international business travel to fulfill SMS Promotion and Training requirements.
The BDUK SMS Training Specialist role co-delivers the SMS Promotion & Training SMS pillar alongside the Promotion & Training Lead for BDUK.
The role has the following key responsibilities:
- Act as a focal for SMS safety promotion and training process and procedures.
- Support the creation and delivery of the SMS promotion strategy to promote a Positive Safety Culture with BDUK.
- Produce safety promotion artefacts to support the SMS Promotion Strategy.
- Support the Programme SMS Leads to develop and maintain effective communication and promotion strategies.
- Coach and Mentor; Human Factors Facilitators, Human Factors Supervisors and other Instructors delivering SMS training to assist the maintenance of training delivery standards.
- Plan and the deliver BDUK SMS Training courses to BDUK staff.
- Support the ongoing continuous improvement of SMStraining course (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Delivery and Evaluation).
- Support Boeing Enterprise with training development and delivery standardisation.
- Monitor and develop SMS culture metrics to assess and evaluate BDUK Positive Safety Culture and its ongoing improvement.
- Support the management and coordination of safety culture surveys across BDUK.
- Maintain SMS records and documentation in support of BDUK SMS Policy.
Essential competencies, experience and qualities:
- Eligibility for UK SC Security Clearance: Applicants must be able to obtain the necessary clearance.
- Formal instructional qualification (DTTT, DTc, Level 3/4 in Adult Education and training (AE&T) or teaching qualification).
- Qualified as a Defence or Civil Human Factors Facilitator, qualified to the associated requisite regulatory authority standard (Qualified Crew Resource Management Trainers (CRMT) will also be considered).
- Strong communication, diplomacy and interpersonal skills, as well as developed understanding of how to deliver emotionally intelligent training solutions.
- The ability to influence and engage employees at all levels to promote safety culture.
- Demonstrable ability to use training related IT and project management concepts/tools.
- Developed course: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Delivery and Evaluation experience (Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) or Civil equivalence).
- Prior experience as an aviation platform crewmember, engineer or support staff in the aviation industry.
- Previous recent experience in the application of MAA or civil regulatory safety requirements in training.
- Demonstrate the ability to take initiative and work unsupervised on the planning and execution of work activities.
- Ability to effectively identify and execute opportunities to improve SMS strategies, processes and project plans.
- Demonstrate the ability to achieve successful interaction across multi-discipline teams.
Desirable competencies:
- Defence or Civil Human Factors Supervisor / Examiner, qualified to the associated requisite regulatory authority standard Qualified Crew Resource Management Trainer Examiners (CRMTE) will also be considered).
- Formal training mentoring qualifications (DTS, DTM or Qualified training mentor)
- Aviation Investigator experience undertaking incident/event investigation standards.
- Proficiency in using learning management systems (LMS) and online training development software.
- Depth of formal instructional and facilitation experience in SMS training disciplines or alternatively experience as an adult education specialist.
- Aviation Investigator experience undertaking incident/event investigation standards.
This role is on-site position with flexible working hours.
