Responsibilities

  • As directed, maintains journals or subsidiary ledgers of an accounting system and balances and reconciles accounts. Is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Commissary.
  • Works under the supervision of the Deputy Project Manager. The Commissary Accountant will act independently or assist in the performance of any and all duties necessary to keep the facility in full operation. Will perform other duties as assigned.
  • The duties listed below are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work. They should not be construed as a complete list of the various duties normally performed by the individuals assigned to the Commissary or those to be performed temporarily outside an employee’s normal line of work.
  • Reviews invoices and statements verifying information, ensuring sufficient funds have been obligated, and if questionable, resolving with the submitting unit, determining accounts involved, coding transactions and processing material through data processing for application in the accounting system.
  • Will analyze and reconciles computer printouts with operating unit reports contacting units and researching causes of discrepancies and taking action to ensure that accounts balance.
  • Resolves problems in recurring assignments in accordance with previous training and experience.
  • Handles all commissary functions, including interface with vendor, ICE inspectors, and detainees, as required.
  • Prepares and submits reports in functional areas on time and accurately.
  • Reconciles bank statements.
  • Prepares detainee payroll and deposits monies into individual accounts.
  • Makes withdrawals from and deposits into detainee accounts.
  • Works in conjunction with the order filler and submits orders, inspects and delivers commissary items when required.
  • Work is completed in a priority established by supervision or facility need.
  • All work will be completed with a high degree of professionalism, quality and craftsmanship.
  • Lulls in workload are used to maintain a clean and orderly work area and to ensure clerical tasks are up to date. Keeps up to date on departmental and facility safety standards and local codes and policies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum associates degree in accounting preferred.
  • Computer experience needed with Microsoft Word and Excel. Accounting experience required.
  • Must have inter/intra communication skills with employees and department heads. Must be able to follow Standard Codes of Conduct pertaining to interaction with detainee population.
  • May lift or push up to 50 lbs. For extended periods of time may be required to stand, walk, squat, kneel, sit, bend, reach and climb.
  • Work areas may include all areas of the facility. Majority of work in air-conditioned facility.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to pass extensive background investigation and drug testing. Random drug testing will be performed.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Wages and Benefits: As set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.
