Morson Talent is a leading recruitment agency with over two decades of expertise in the UK market. We are currently seeking an experienced Construction Manager to work on behalf of our large aerospace client based in Edinburgh. This is an ongoing contract role with a site-based requirement.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will report to and work closely with the Site Projects/ Programme Manager, liaising proactively with other internal departments, including SHE, Security, and incumbent FM teams. They will also collaborate with external suppliers and contractors to ensure the successful delivery of construction projects and the achievement of programme goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend contractor inductions to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct daily checks on works to ensure they comply with submitted RAMS.
  • Perform site project audits to identify and address any compliance issues.
  • Monitor and issue yellow/red card processes for any non-compliant behaviour.
  • Proactively report any urgent maintenance issues or hazards around the site to the on-site Facilities provider or SHE team.
  • Ensure that life safety systems are not compromised by ongoing works.
  • Contribute to weekly reporting on compliance, construction clashes, and week-ahead planning.
  • Keep security informed about upcoming works and trades.
  • Liaise with security to ensure contractors are compliant with clearance levels.
  • Book visitor access and provide necessary escorting services.
  • Ensure that works do not compromise security systems.
  • Oversee project deliveries to ensure timely completion.
  • Deputise for the Project Manager/ Programme Manager as needed.
  • Assist the team in continuous improvement activities and processes.
  • Be responsible for the control, supervision, and safety of the workforce and subcontractors from the commencement of works through to completion.
  • Manage the construction works of new build and refurbishment projects on-site, including representation at project meetings when necessary.
  • Ensure that targets and expectations are met regarding health and safety, delivery to build programmes, quality, and cost.
  • Comply with Company health and safety standards, HASAWA, and building regulations at all times on-site.
  • Undertake company-directed inspections at the appropriate timings and address any defects promptly to avoid additional costs, time delays, or a reduction in final quality.
  • Monitor and control the volume of work on-site and approve payments to contractors and trades as necessary.
  • Initiate and attend inspections with PM’s, key stakeholders, SHE representatives, and external consultants, taking the lead on corrective action for any findings.
  • Deliver a high standard of site presentation at all times.
  • Motivate and support site staff and contractors, providing toolbox talks and coaching as necessary to improve performance.
  • Conduct tours and provide a demonstration of the works, addressing any questions and rectifying any issues before completion of works.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including delivery notes, site induction records, yellow/red card reports, and waste transfer notes for the SHE team.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Significant previous experience in a similar role.
  • Valid CSCS card at the site manager level (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in effectively managing teams.
  • Current knowledge of HASAWA and building regulations, including quality standards.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask while working to deadlines.
  • Valid first aid certificate.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • HNC level 4 or higher in Construction Management (desirable).
  • Knowledge of electrical/mechanical trades (desirable).
  • Valid IPAF certificate (desirable).
  • Familiarity with ITAR controls or high secure/mod sites (desirable).
