Reporting to the Vice President of Quality based at our U.S. head office (Texas) and working closely with the leaders in Canada, you will manage strategic and operational priorities affecting the quality of products, to include relationships with Transport Canada and collaborate with Supplier Quality organization
You will oversee adherence to and seek to improve Mirabel’s Quality Management System
This role leads to a multi-disciplinary and multi-level team, working with production and the shipping and receiving departments to ensure the inherent quality of parts. You will be a stakeholder in all issues and quality initiatives deployed by the manufacturing center in Fort Worth as well as directly interface with an assembly site in Chihuahua, Mexico and a customization and MRO site in Piney Flats, Tennessee.
Responsibilities of this role:
- Reinforce the structure around operator self-verification. Be a leader to the Bell Textron Mirabel site in finding the right balance
- Develop and maintain compliance with all Bell standards and requirements; Quality Management System (QMS), AS9100, AS9102 and Supplier Quality Requirements Manual (SQRM) and Bell Process Specifications (BPS).
- Serve as a resource and point of contact for Transport Canada for pre-certification activities. Oversee and update all documents, logs and certifications regarding Bell products and services
- Instill and maintain a sound, efficient and engaging culture of excellence aimed at galvanizing and reinforcing the Quality vision across the organization.
- Establish, update and implement all quality-related documents and forms.
- Analyze, administer and maintain the department’s performance indicators in partnership with BTCL’s management team.
- Manage processes for first article inspections (FAIs) and last article inspections (LAIs).
- Oversees impact to Supplier letters impacting Mirabel production, the Material Review Board (MRB) and Supplier Letters of Disclosure (SLODs) impacting Mirabel product.
- Actively participate in the launch and development of new products and/or programs to ensure the utmost quality assurance standards are considered and implemented.
- Support processes for suppliers’ frozen planning.
- Coordinate processes for analyzing root causes of production defects and determining inherent corrective measures with follow-up through resolution
- Address Quality issues noted in new ship delivery reports (NSDRs), implement action plans for corrective measures and follow-up through resolution.
- Manage inspection resources for all departments.
- Implement advanced quality initiatives that lead to reductions in production costs.
- Ensure the availability of data necessary to carry out audits of internal and external programs and guide continuous improvement projects.
- Implement continuous improvement processes based on departmental performance indicators. Facilitate Corrective Action Boards (CABs) at applicable levels
- Partner with Engineering to ensure a comprehensive aircraft Safety Management System is developed and maintained.
- Employ and ensure a robust FOD awareness program is implemented at all Bell Canada facilities.
- Work closely with other Quality managers across the organization, including Ft Worth, Amarillo, Piney Flats and Chihuahua, Mexico.
Skills You Bring To this Role
- Strong knowledge of industry quality standards (e.g., AS9100) and systems, First Article Inspection processes (AS9102), and aerospace quality requirements as well as regulatory requirements (TCCA).
- Strategic thinking skills; Recognize quality as a business driver, and develop and execute a strategy for continuous improvement.
- Effectively influence and drive accountability across departments outside of Quality, leveraging collaboration and leadership skills without direct authority.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications, including simple to highly complex assemblies using model-based definition and CAD models.
· Good understanding of measuring tools and equipment used for conformity.
· Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, communication, collaboration, and analytical abilities.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and tools such as ERP or PLM software (e.g., SAP, PEO, Enovia, 3DX) is a plus, with knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Certification in quality management (e.g., CQE, CQA) is desirable but not required.
- Resilience: Sustain focus and morale through complex challenges and change management.
What you need to be successful
- Bachelor’s degree in quality management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in quality assurance in aerospace manufacturing. Will consider equivalent experience in manufacturing or engineering.
- Proven track record of leading quality in aerospace manufacturing to include maintaining compliance to regulatory requirements, adherence to and implementation of a quality management system, audit, inspection oversight, and root cause corrective action.
- Coaching and development skills; Proven success building high-performing, empowered quality teams.
- Change leadership skills; Demonstrated success leading large-scale quality or culture transformations.
- Functional knowledge in French is required.
- Functional knowledge in English is required for this position, as it involves communication in English with Bell teams outside of Quebec and/or its suppliers, partners, and clients outside of Quebec.
