Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the aircraft maintenance and systems functions. This is an executive-level position that reports directly to the CEO.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Directs the aircraft maintenance and systems functions
  • Develops and implements short and long term goals and objectives
  • Develops and implements Department policies and procedures and ensures that they support and complement Company-wide strategic objectives
  • Supervises and directs all assigned personnel, ensuring optimal performance. Manages personnel decisions in conjunction with HR including hiring, terminations, wage decisions, and promotions; Conducts performance appraisals as required; Formulates and implements employee corrective actions as needed.
  • Conducts periodic reviews of existing policies. Ensures that policies are updated and in accordance with evolving production and quality standards.
  • Participates in budget development and bid preparation
  • Monitors and supervises Production and Aircraft Maintenance quality. Identifies problems and resolves them quickly and effectively
  • Regulates work flow to ensure maximum production capacity. Monitors the floor production schedule to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Writes procedure documents and completes related reports and records
  • Ensures that Production and Aircraft Maintenance functions are completed in accordance with established production, safety, and quality standards
  • Works closely with purchasing, engineering, and aircraft manager to maintain schedules and implement changes and revisions in operational procedures
  • Stays informed of developments and changes in aircraft sheet metal and Maintenance techniques and methods
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relations with Company personnel and management
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Aviation Management or related field
  • 10+ years of MRO/Completion experience with at least 1 year of experience in the capacity of approving an aircraft for return to service, leadership development, and supply chain
  • 10+ years of experience as a manager in an aircraft manufacturing or VIP completion setting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Additional related training, education or certifications
  • Airframe and Powerplant license

SUCCESS FACTORS/JOB COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrated knowledge or certification in one or more of the following continuous improvement systems: Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt, Lean Manufacturing, TQM or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of aircraft component production functions, procedures, and standards
  • Knowledge of quality control standards and systems
  • Well organized with strong planning and management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Quality orientation
  • Able to organize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong problem solving abilities
  • Able to use all related production equipment and applications
  • Must be able to read, write and speak Standard English for routine business correspondence and for producing work products
  • Must be able to adhere to all established safety policies, processes and procedures


WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in indoor and, occasionally, outdoor settings. The indoor settings include office and warehouse/airplane hangar environments which require the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines and safety gear. The outdoor settings include airplane runways and parking lots. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. Occasionally subject to varying inside and/or outside temperatures, which may include extreme heat (temperatures above 100 degrees) or extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required use the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Light work; exerts up to 20 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

TRAVEL: Some travel is expected for this position (up to 30)
