Job Description:
Job Summary: The Director of Internal Auditing will establish and lead the internal audit function within the organization, ensuring that the companys operations, financial reporting, and internal controls are effectively monitored and compliant with all regulations. This role is responsible for building the internal audit department from the ground up, providing senior leadership, overseeing the planning and execution of audit activities, and reporting to senior management and the Audit Committee.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive enterprise-wide internal auditing strategy, function, and practice adhering to auditing standards and regulatory requirements.
Establish the auditing governance framework and procedures to attain long-term auditing objectives.
Lead the projects, teams, and tasks required to produce annual audit plans.
Collaborate with other functions across the enterprise, such as risk, finance, information technology, and security, to facilitate audits.
Prepare audit reports and recommend enhanced controls or processes as needed.
Build and develop auditing teams and expertise with coaching and developmental initiatives.
Create functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develop budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX compliance, GAAP, IFRS, etc.).
Maintain a strong understanding of the company’s internal control systems and provide guidance on improvements.
Assist in preparing for external audits and regulatory inspections.
Present audit findings and risk management recommendations to senior leadership, the Audit Committee, and other key stakeholders.
Build and maintain strong relationships with senior executives, external auditors, and other key business units to ensure successful collaboration and audit outcomes.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
CPA required.
At least 10 years of experience, with 5+ years in a managerial role.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of internal audit standards, COSO frameworks, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
Strong leadership, project management, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to analyze complex data, identify risks, and propose actionable solutions.
Strong knowledge of audit software, ERP systems, and financial reporting tools.
