Islander Aviation is seeking an experienced Director of Maintenance to lead our maintenance operations and ensure the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational excellence. This leadership position will oversee all aspects of aircraft maintenance services, manage the technical team, and ensure regulatory compliance with FAA requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership:
- Direct and oversee all maintenance services for customer aircraft, specializing in turboprop and small to medium jet aircraft
 
- Develop and implement maintenance programs, procedures, policies, and quality standards
 
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with FAA regulations, manufacturer requirements, and company standards
 
- Manage project scheduling and workflow to meet customer commitments and deadlines
 
- Coordinate with customers regarding maintenance status, project timelines, and technical recommendations
 
- Leverage industry connections to generate new business opportunities and customer leads
 
Regulatory Compliance:
- Maintain current knowledge of FAA regulations and ensure organizational compliance
 
- Oversee all required inspections, including annual, 100-hour, and progressive inspections
 
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
 
- Serve as primary liaison with FAA inspectors and representatives
 
- Ensure airworthiness directives (ADs) and service bulletins are tracked and completed
 
Team Management:
- Supervise, mentor, and develop maintenance technicians
 
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing training
 
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, customer service, and continuous improvement
 
- Manage staffing levels and scheduling to meet customer demands and project commitments
 
Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the maintenance department budget
 
- Control maintenance costs while maintaining quality standards
 
- Manage parts inventory and vendor relationships
 
- Evaluate and implement cost-effective maintenance solutions
 
- Identify and pursue new business development opportunities
 
Quality Assurance:
- Establish and maintain quality control procedures
 
- Conduct regular audits of maintenance practices and documentation
 
- Investigate and resolve maintenance-related issues and discrepancies
 
- Implement corrective actions as needed
 
Required Qualifications:
Certifications & Licenses:
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate - Required
 
- FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) - Required
 
- Valid driver's license
 
Experience:
- Minimum 7-10 years of aircraft maintenance experience
 
- Minimum 3-5 years in a supervisory or management role
 
- Extensive experience with turboprop aircraft and small to medium jet aircraft
 
- Experience with general aviation maintenance and repair services
 
- Proven track record of regulatory compliance
 
- Established industry connections and network within the turboprop and jet maintenance community
 
Technical Knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of FAA regulations (14 CFR Parts 43, 91, and applicable parts)
 
- Strong knowledge of turboprop and jet aircraft systems, components, and maintenance practices
 
- Proficiency with maintenance tracking software and documentation systems
 
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical publications
 
- Familiarity with common turboprop and jet aircraft types (e.g., King Air, Pilatus, Citation, Phenom, etc.)
