Job Description:

The Director of Operations reports to the Chief of Flight Operations and is the Company’s designated authority to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Director of Operations, through direct leadership as well as delegation through the Chief Pilot, ensures that the Company’s pilots are poised and ready to serve our patients, people and partners while adhering to FAA regulations.

The Director of Operations is responsible for the tactical execution of daily aviation operations with a strong focus on supporting patient care initiatives. This role ensures compliance with FAA regulations by implementing established protocols and empowering front-line leader decision making. The Director’s responsibilities include supporting optimized fleet movement and pilot scheduling, ensuring high safety standards, and acting as the tactical liaison to implement the Executive Leadership Team’s strategies. Collaborating with Senior Leadership team and working as an aviation partner.

The Director of Operations is also responsible for the Company’s Operations Control Center, ensuring continuous two-tier operational control while meeting Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 14, Section 135.619 and Advisory Circular 120-96A. The Director of Operation’s leadership, attention to regulatory details and aviation safety are fundamental to the Company’s success in providing cutting-edge patient care. This position is classified as hybrid. The Director of Operations embraces and lives out the Company’s mission, values, and commitment to safe and effective air medical transport.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, Business Management related field or equivalent experience
  • Thorough knowledge in the field of aviation
  • Meets the requirements of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 14, Section 119.71(b)
    • Three to five years of leadership experience in the air ambulance transport industry or equivalent management experience
    • Three years of Pilot in Command experience within the past 6 years of an aircraft conducted under Part 121 or Part 135 or prior Director of Operations experience
    • 2000 hours of combined fixed wing and/or rotor wing experience as PIC
    • Must have current or previous FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate (or higher) with Instrument Rating
    • Thorough understanding of General Operations Manual (GOM) and Operations Specifications and industry best practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong leadership skills with experience inspiring, coaching, and developing teams in a positive, and inclusive environment
  • Leads with emotional intelligence to build trust, foster open communication, and drive collaboration across all departments.
  • Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to resolve conflict and build relationships across the organization

  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft operations and cross-functional organizational processes (aviation, maintenance, clinical, communication)
  • Proven experience championing a proactive safety culture, including leadership in Safety Management Systems (SMS), and using data for proactive risk management ensuring safety is embedded in all operational decisions
  • Leverages the Operations Control Center (OCC) as a strategic enterprise asset to enhance situational awareness, support real-time decision-making, and strengthen coordination across the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop high-performing, empowered teams
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a demanding environment
  • Willingness to travel and possession of a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3000 hours of flight time
  • Dual rated in RW and FW
  • Certified Flight Instructor Instrument
  • Actual Instrument flight time
  • Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating
  • Master’s degree in business management or related field
  • Experience as a Director of Operations for an air ambulance transport operator
  • Experience with related operations and maintenance software
  • Prior experience of technical publications writing
  • Experience integrating Operations Control Center (OCC) capabilities into daily operations and enterprise-level decision-making
  • Experience leveraging centralized operations functions (such as OCC) to improve situational awareness, risk management, and operational coordination
  • Demonstrated involvement in SMS maturity efforts, including hazard identification, risk analysis, and safety performance monitoring
