Job Description:
The Director of Safety and Security (DOS) reports directly to the Company President on safety and security matters and helps ensure compliance applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and company manuals. The DOS manages the internal evaluation program (IEP) that continually audits, inspects and evaluates key processes to ensure regulatory compliance. The DOS advises assists and counsels management and executives on Safety Management System (SMS) compliance. The DOS manages the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) in accordance with AC 120-66C and the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The DOS acts as the company Aircraft Operator Security Coordinator and liaises with the TSA on matters related to the approved security program.
 
The Director of Safety is also responsible to the president for:
  • Safety Policy, Safety Promotion, Safety Assurance and Safety Risk Management (14 CFR Part 5)
  • Timely advice and assistance on SMS to all managers
  • Maintaining the Kalitta Charters II safety reporting system
  • Monitoring corrective actions and aviation safety trends
  • Liaising with Directors and Managers of all departments on aviation safety and security matters
  • Disseminating aviation safety-related information company-wide
  • Maintaining an open liaison with government agencies and other aviation safety organizations
  • Conducting and coordinating investigations into incidents and assisting with the investigation of accidents
  • Developing and delivering initial and recurrent aviation safety and security training
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED and prior experience in 14 CFR 121 flight operations, dispatch, or maintenance. Equivalent prior military experience may be considered. Candidates must also be eligible for the position as per the conditions described in 14 CFR 119.65(d).
 
Candidates must also have the following:
  • A broad aviation and technical education
  • A sound knowledge of air carrier operations, to include flight and maintenance operations procedures and activities
  • Experience as a flight crew member, mechanic or dispatcher (flight follower)The ability for clear expression in writing
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literacy
  • The ability to communicate at all levels, both inside and outside the company
  • Organizational skills
  • Be capable of working alone (at times under pressure)Good analytical skills
  • Exhibit leadership and an authoritative approach
  • Worthy of commanding respect among peers and management official
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management or similar course of study
  • Holder of any of the following FAA Certificates: Airline Transport Pilot, Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic, Aircraft Dispatcher
  • Prior experience as 14 CFR 119.65 required management personnel
  • Prior experience in Safety Management System implementation or management
  • Prior management experience in 14 CFR Part 121 Supplemental Operations
  • Proficiency with UTRS Web Based Application Tool (WBAT) software
