GENERAL SUMMARY:

Position is the main focal point of the department and takes direction from the operations manager. The purpose of this position is to manage the day-to-day activities of the respective departments and to plan, organize, direct and control the operation of the department so that it performs efficiently and effectively.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for understanding and managing the department to all requirements of the quality system. This includes all respective quality control procedures, department operating manuals, process control procedures, and work instructions.
  2. Interviews and recommends applicants for hire; ensures that employees are trained for the operation they are performing including the understanding and use of any equipment or tools, part specific techniques, operating procedures, safety, and productivity.
  3. Conducts performance appraisals and provides regular feedback to coach and develop team.
  4. Ensures effective employee relations. Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
  5. Promotes a positive and collaborative work environment.
  6. Supports production by assigning work schedules based on the priorities set by planning.
  7. Answers and follow-ups on questions or concerns raised by employees; provides feedback to the operations manager with regard to the overall performance of the department.
  8. Responsible for making sure the structure and capacity of the departments will support the forecasted volume of work.
  9. Ensures that thru-put and target earned hours are attained and budget criteria is met or exceeded.
  10. Implements and monitors standards for production performance, operating cost, operating procedures, and employee conduct.
  11. Drives and supports departmental 6S and continuous improvement initiatives.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of the investment casting process and equipment; ability to learn the process and quality requirements in a short period of time.
  2. Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office to include Excel and Word.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  4. Knowledge of planning and scheduling systems; ability to create and follow a financial budget.
  5. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively supervise.
  7. Ability to promote teamwork within and across departments.
  8. Ability to work varying schedules and overtime as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Two (2) years experience in a manufacturing industry, supervisory experience, and AA degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience required. BS degree in engineering preferred. Preference given to individuals trained in Lean Manufacturing and 6-Sigma.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to stand and walk within the manufacturing facility. Ability to communicate, write, type, use and operate office and department/s equipment. Ability to exert up to thirty-five pounds of force to move objects (lift up to 35lbs). Ability to work in conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
