POSITION SUMMARY
Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Lead Technician – Train, qualify, certify and supervise NDT personnel in the performance of nondestructive methods to test and accept aircraft structures, components and assemblies or sub-assemblies for flaws affecting airworthiness. Lead NDT Technicians maintain proficiency in all required NDT methods used for the detection of corrosion, cracks, and other flaws which could lead to failure of the articles being tested. Lead NDT Technicians monitor NDT technical data that affects the airworthiness of aircraft.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for all NDT functions associated with Components, Accessories and Hangar Operations.
2. Oversee, direct and supervise the activities of personnel certified to perform NDT.
3. Review, maintain, acquire and provide adequate NDT equipment, material within the area of responsibility to ensure compliance with OEM, national and/or international Standards.
4. Ensure NDT personnel comply with air carrier continuous airworthiness maintenance programs and airworthiness agreement requirements.
5. Ensure all NDT inspections performed by the repair station are properly accomplished and documented.
6. Ensure EAMS NDT procedures and policies are reviewed and updated to comply with current regulatory manual revisions
7. Ensure required NDT equipment is available to NDT personnel pursuant to the repair station capability ratings.
8. Ensure current NDT technical data is available to personnel prior to assigning NDT Inspection tasks.
9. Ensure that all NDT qualification and certification training is accomplished effectively and accurately recorded.
10. Take corrective action on deficiencies related to NDT tooling, equipment and/or materials related to NDT inspection processes.
11. Oversee and administer Eyesight Evaluation Program for NDT, Inspection and Welding personnel
12. To conduct assessments, administer and monitor NDT Level I, II and III training for applicable inspection personnel.
13. Develop and update NDT Level I, II and III testing curriculums.
14. Review new OEM and/or Customer generated NDT tasks and provide feedback on procedure and/or tooling requirements to OEM or Customer.
15. Ensure that all nondestructive testing is performed in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
16. Ensure that non-destructive testing equipment is inventoried, serviceable and in current calibration at all time or submit Purchase orders as needed.
17. Maintain their NDT proficiencies in order to perform NDT inspections of aircraft, engines, propellers, accessories, components, assemblies or sub-assemblies and materials processed through the repair station, as required.
18. Ensure proper documentation of discrepancies on appropriate forms, work orders, tags or aircraft logs.
19. Ensure that shift turnover procedures are followed and properly documented.
20. Complies with repair station procedures and company policies.
21. Properly certificated in accordance with FAR 65, Subpart D or E, and will meet the applicable personnel qualification/certification requirements of EAMS SOP 3.5 (FAA accepted procedure for qualification and certification of NDT personnel).
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education:
Ø High School Diploma, A. S. Degree in Aviation preferred
Ø A&P Certificate
Ø Level III NDT certification required
Experience:
Ø 8+ years’ experience in aerospace NDT inspection, preferably commercial aerospace.
Ø At least 4 years’ experience as an NAS410 (or equivalent) certified NDT Level II in any or all of the following: Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasound.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ø Assignments require Comprehensive Knowledge of all possible tasks and responsibilities within their Technical Area.
Ø Skills are broadly applied in multiple Technical Areas.
Ø Knowledge of safety and operating procedures for power-on aircraft
Ø Ability to understand procedures, acting in problem solving, suggesting improvements
Working Conditions / Environment/ Special Requirements
Ø Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
Ø As required by position, must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 “Respirator Protection” regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator.
Ø Ability to work flexible hours and different shifts if required.
Ø Ability to travel 25 of time to responsible locations
Ø Employees will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations.
Ø Must have successfully completed a vision exam prior to any training.
Ø This employee is subject to an annual vision test.
