Since 2009, our team has been making this dream a reality, designing and flight testing a prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration and preparing for commercialization with launch targeted in select markets for 2024.

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate individual to help manage a low volume, quick turn around job shop to focus and keep on track the machine shop team output, activities and personnel in support of the development, certification, and production of Joby’s eVTOL aircraft. As the Machine Shop Foreperson, this person will integrate within the Reactive Team Shops and work side by side with the Fabrication Shop and Waterjet Team. This role is responsible for assisting with scheduling, tracking, and planning for all machine shop jobs. They will also be responsible for equipment maintenance schedule and repair, as well as material and tool inventory, working under the direction of the Reactive Team Lead.

Responsibilities
  • Assists Shop Coordinator in maintaining an up-to-date schedule for upcoming machine shop jobs while also checking in with the machinists to be sure they have what they need to complete their jobs from start to finish including program accuracy, tools, materials, etc.
  • Coordinates with program management to ensure priorities of parts are appropriately identified.
  • Keeps the team working together cohesively and is responsible for helping team members improve their skills and identify their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Listens to feedback from the team members on the floor and relays information to the Team Lead.
  • Identify equipment issues and report them immediately while maintaining the equipment coolant, lubricants, chip clearing, machine improvements and any general maintenance items.
  • Implements 5S to maintain shop cleanliness and organization.
  • Work directly with Fabrication and Waterjet teams to collaborate on team improvements and planning for jobs that require all 3 shops to work together.
  • Keeps internal customers and the team informed about the status of their requests through regular updates to the Jira ticket system and Slack channels.
  • Manages ordering and takes inventory of materials, tools, equipment services, general shop supplies and other team needs at the direction of the machine shop lead.
Required
  • Associates degree or higher in a related field or 10-15 years + experience in a similar management role or 20 + years experience in the machining industry. (Quick turn around job shop experience preferred, but production experience ok).
  • Familiarity with CNC machining processes from top to bottom.
  • 5 + years CAM Programming experience.
  • Understanding of GD&T at a high level and understanding what it takes to produce high quality parts.
  • Highly organized, strong computer skills, familiar with working in spreadsheets, Jira, Slack and other computer tools.
  • Understand basic machine maintenance requirements.
  • Capable of positively interacting in a highly dynamic team environment.
  • Able to provide feedback to the team and team Lead.
  • Timecard management experience.
  • Have strong listening and verbal communication skills.
  • Have high level customer relations/negotiating skills and able to provide feedback to both machinists and engineers.
  • Understand outside processes and is able to work with outside vendors on lead times and quoting.

  • Experience with programming in Fusion 360
  • Experience with Haas machines and controllers
  • Familiar with ADP
  • Experience with Jira / Confluence
  • Experience with Slack, Microsoft Excel, Sharepoint, D365

The target base pay for this position is $84,400 - $112,500/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
