Role Summary

The Manager, Payments Accounting Operations is responsible for executing the strategy for the Payments and Fraud Protection Accounting teams at Alaska Air Group (AAG). As a people leader, the Manager, Payments Accounting Operations leads and establishes priorities for the team to accurately and timely record AAG customer payments receivable, cost of payment processing, cash settlements, revenue adjustments and other related financial entries and reporting in compliance with all internal, regulatory and payment industry rules and standards.

Key Duties

  • Leads teams as assigned and establishes priorities for the processing and recording of multi-billion dollars in AAG customer payments.

  • Makes decisions and provides subject matter expertise in financial audits of AAG customer payments and related systems.

  • Functions as the point of contact for multiple third-party vendors, including banks and other financial institutions. Provides feedback and assists with oversight of vendor performance.

  • Makes decisions and changes to ensure quality data and timely reporting goals are achieved, while meeting internal and SOX control standards, productivity, and cost goals.

  • Cultivates and collaborates effectively with other cross-divisional teams to determine accurate payment processing and recording when changes are proposed to upstream operations or systems.

  • Implements procedural or process changes as they relate to transactional processing, account reconciliation, and internal controls.

  • Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing, consistent feedback, and ensures staffing levels are adequate in all areas of responsibility within the Payments and Fraud Protection Accounting teams.

  • Fosters a culture of engagement, holds self and others accountable through trust and authentic relationships.

  • Promotes a high-performance culture by cultivating and motivating direct/indirect reports through coaching, mentoring, and by providing regular and meaningful feedback.

  • Identifies and provides career development opportunities through developmental assignments and formal/informal training.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 5 years of experience in accounting.

  • 2 years of leadership experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in business administration, accounting, or a related discipline, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Proven experience developing and executing plans, meeting deadlines, and operating under tight time constraints.

  • Familiarity with GAAP, SOX, and SEC regulations, and a strong understanding and focus on internal controls.

  • Ability to develop a strong, detailed, working knowledge of airline payment accounting processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and clearly communicate cross-divisionally, including company leaders.

  • Ability to work effectively with others throughout all levels in the organization and vendor companies.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the business needs.

  • High organization, attention to detail, workload prioritization and time management skills.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • 2 years of experience functionally supporting a Payments Accounting process, or related experience.

  • 3 years of accounting experience in supervisory or leadership positions.

  • Experience making articulate and effective verbal and written presentations to different audiences.

  • Experience leading bargaining unit employees.

  • Strong analytical skills and excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member as well as take on individual responsibility.

  • Ability to simplify payments accounting processes within AAG while achieving compliance to internal control standards.

  • Ability to lead, build, and develop teams through formal and informal feedback.

  • Ability to effectively manage relationships, instruct and coach employees, and drive for results.

  • A Master of Arts/Science degree or a Master of Business Administration degree.

  • Professional certifications or equivalent of CPA, CMA, CFM, or CIA.

Salary Range

$113,200 - $169,800 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
