Job PurposeFlight Operations is a multi-disciplinary department responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the airline’s aircraft. The team manages pilot operations, training, technical support, and compliance, working closely with regulatory bodies and other stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of safety, performance, and operational excellence across the network.
Provide subject matter expertise and leadership for pilot assessment activities within Flight Operations. Manage a team of experienced pilot assessors, ensuring consistency, fairness, and technical rigour in candidate evaluations. Collaborate with Recruitment to support the selection of high-calibre pilots by validating candidates against published Flight Ops criteria.
Job Outline:
- Lead the design and delivery of simulator-based and technical assessments for pilot selection. Ensure all assessments align with Flight Operations published evaluation criteria and uphold the highest operational standards. Maintain relationships with simulator suppliers and ensure effective coordination between PSS teams and candidates.
- Manage and develop a team of pilot assessors (ex-captains/first officers), ensuring calibration across assessments, appropriate resource allocation, and high performance. Provide coaching and conduct regular reviews to maintain consistency and effectiveness. Ensure efficient use of resources, continuous process improvement, and capability development within the team.
- Evaluate pilot candidates based on technical, simulator, and behavioural performance. Provide structured recommendations on candidate suitability and readiness and advise on potential fleet allocation based on assessment outcomes.
- Partner with the Flight Training team to interpret PSP and simulator performance data and liaise with Medical Services to flag potential concerns that may impact a candidates operational deployment/allocation.
- Maintain the relevance, fairness, and technical robustness of assessment tools and frameworks. Propose enhancements based on assessor feedback, operational shifts, or industry best practices. Ensure compliance with audit and governance standards aligned with GCAA and other regulatory requirements
- Serve as the Flight Ops assessment liaison to Recruitment, ensuring timely candidate evaluation without overlap into requisition management, sourcing strategy, ATS workflows, or campaign spend. Participate in calibration sessions and hiring panels as required.
QualificationQualifications & Experience:
- Experience in Flight Operations. with exposure to pilot evaluation, assessment, or training
- Must have held or currently hold an ATPL. Previous operational experience as a First Officer or Captain in commercial airline operations
- Demonstrated leadership or people management experience, preferably leading assessors, trainers, or technical SMEs
- Strong understanding of simulator assessment methodology and pilot competency frameworks
Preferred:
- Experience participating in pilot selection boards or technical advisory panels
- Familiarity with behavioural interviewing techniques or Human Factors frameworks
- Exposure to airline training systems (e.g., line training, recurrent training)
- Understanding of recruitment processes and interdependencies
Knowledge/skills:
Sound knowledge of databases and internet technology, ideally with familiarity of e-Recruitment solutions.
