Regional Aviation Manager – PacWest Region

Join Air Methods as a Regional Aviation Manager and play a key leadership role in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient flight operations across our PacWest region. This position oversees aviation personnel and activities with a strong focus on safety, training, and operational readiness.

As a member of Air Methods’ leadership team, you’ll coordinate with regional maintenance, clinical, and safety leaders to drive excellence in air medical operations. The ideal candidate brings extensive aviation management experience, proven leadership, and a deep commitment to safety and regulatory compliance under Part 135 operations.

This is a remote/home-based position with regular regional travel to support operational needs.

Key Highlights:

• Lead aviation operations, safety, and training initiatives for bases across WA, NV, CA, and West AZ.

• Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, Operations Specifications, and the Air Methods General Operations Manual.

• Supervise and mentor aviation staff, oversee pilot training coordination, and promote adherence to Safety Management Systems.

• Partner with regional leaders on performance, safety investigations, and operational improvements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and 8–10 years of related aviation or air medical experience (or equivalent combination).

• Minimum 2,500 flight hours and 2 years of Part 135 operational experience.

• Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Airplane or Rotorcraft) and FAA Second Class Medical.

Compensation:

• Salary range: $98,000–$125,000 (based on experience)

• Short-term incentive bonus plan

Job Summary

Responsible for supporting the organization, direction and administration tasks assigned within a regional area in relationship to overseeing aviation activities and personnel. Specific areas of focus are safety and training. Responsible for daily aviation duties. May be required to work with other field management including regional leadership, maintenance, and clinical to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to service requests.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:

• Ensure all operations within region are compliant with regulations, operations specifications and General Operations Manual.
• Participates as a member of Air Methods’ management team to promote a successful operation.
• Researches and reports to Director of Operations on FRx budget/actual variances
• Ensures completion of aviation management portions of Base Startup, Closure and Movement Manual.
• Ensures that revisions for the Operations Manual and Operations Specifications are distributed and revised as required and the appropriate Publications Verification Form(s) are completed and submitted to the certificate holder.
• Provides tactical management of the integration of aircraft, assuring availability and trained pilots in support of operational requirements.
• Delegate’s aviation field logistical support to Area Manager.
• Attends or delegates attendance to fleet status teleconferences (KPI Dashboard).
• Coordinates pilot training in conjunction with the Pilot Training team for the area.
• Coordinates with Regional Safety Director on safety related issues while providing technical and professional assistance to eliminate or control unsafe behaviors in coordination with Area Manager.
• Assists in the Investigation of aviation mishaps and in performing a root cause analysis upon request.
• Submits all required reporting regarding flight personnel to the Regional Aviation Director.
• Monitors the behaviors and performance of aviation personnel to assure they comply with Air Methods’ policies and procedures.
• Ensures that the 411 system is being utilized by pilots.
• Responsible to ensure audit deficiencies and compliance issues found in their area of responsibility are corrected.
• Coordinates with Regional Clinical Managers to schedule and conduct medical crewmember and communication specialist initial and recurrent training. Monitor crewmember Computer Training System (CTS) compliance. Conduct Air Medical Resource Management training.
• Ensure in-service training for aviation and medical personnel occurs prior to placing a back-up aircraft back in service and training records are accurate.
• Responsible for conducting or coordinating ferry and MOC flights.
• Monitors and responds to Accidental, Incident, Damage, Malfunction, Operations Report (AIDMOR) submissions.
• Coordinates with the Regional Maintenance Director/Manager on timely correction of mechanical irregularities and discrepancies impacting maintenance activities informing Area Manager.
• Complete initial subscription for GPS update for assigned aircraft; base maintainers manage recurring downloads.
• Acts as the on-scene representative for all accidents/incidents occurring within assigned area coordinated with Area Managers.
• Educates with pilots the Safety Manage System (SMS) and the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) program.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, available 24/7 for operational requirements.
• Other Duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees in the Aviation department. Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. For Exempt Managers: Managers that carry out these responsibilities for two or more employees will have significant input in hiring and termination decisions.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and eight to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in aviation and air medical transports
• Minimum of 2,500 flight hours
• Two (2) years of experience in a Part 135 operation.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Airplane or Rotorcraft)
