The Manager Southwest University (SWA U) Projects leads a Team of Project Managers responsible for the delivery of all projects within the Project Management Portfolio to ensure prompt and consistent solutions. Theyll support and manage learning solutions including the development of plans, approval, and Stakeholder involvement to produce the best outcome for Southwest Airlines. The Manager SWA U Projects is a skilled communicator and strategic thinker who is excited about the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of Southwest Airlines.

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. The Department designates the specific three days of the week Employees must work on-site.

  • Guide and lead team members using SWA talent management practices to coach, develop, and engage employees

Responsibilities

  • Work with Strategy & Planning team to assign work to appropriate Project Managers (PMs) and ensure all objectives from Project charters are clear

  • Strong knowledge of Project management best practices in order to continue to mature skills and processes on the team

  • Work with Department Leaders to solve problems or issues to specific projects to enable PM and working teams to deliver work.

  • Actively tracks Project manager and stakeholder capacity to ensure proper portfolio health and speed of delivery of work.

  • Oversee a few different work streams for project management; Learning & Development projects, Enterprise Initiatives, OKR support, as well as adhoc project work

  • Ensures projects are properly vetting changes properly and risks are accurately identified, categorized and accepted by Leaders

  • Recruit, develop and retain individuals with skills, attitude and experience needed

  • Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Sufficient knowledge of Project management methods, processes, tools and best practices

  • Skilled servant Leadership mentality with the ability to recognize when a "sense of urgency"

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate complex issues in a structured and concise manner

  • Ability to develop the Team&39;s capabilities while simultaneously driving the SWA U projects portfolio

  • Ability to establish cross functional alliances inside and outside the department and with vendors

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Preferred: PMP certificate

  • Preferred: Experience with tracking software

  • Demonstrated experience directly or indirectly leading team(s)

  • Fully functioning, broad knowledge in:

    • Managing project portfolios or leading medium to large-scale projects

Licensing/Certification

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time

  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information

Pay & Benefits:


Competitive market salary from $118,600 per year* to $131,800 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
